MIAMI | Melody Tower | 467 FT/142m | 36 FLOORS

Melody Tower

Quote:
Cesar Pelli’s $450 million Adrienne Arsht Center for the Performing Arts will soon have a new neighbor, courtesy of Melo Group.

Miami’s Planning Department is now reviewing plans for a 497-unit residential tower called Melody that will neighbor the performing arts center. The residential unit count is the maximum permitted under zoning code.

Melody is proposed to be built at 245 NE 14th Street, on land that Melo bought last year for $9.5 million. The tower will rise 36 floors, or 467 feet. It will include 591 parking spaces – fewer than normally required, thanks to Miami 21 waivers. Also included: about 10,000 square feet of commercial space.

That's boring? Really? I know it could be better, but have you been to the Philly thread lately? There are a couple of projects that would make this look like the Taj Mahal. (just an expression). I hate putting my own Philly down, but we would be glad to get something like that "boring" building.

Note: Also, this is the same group that is building the Edgewater Condo Project which is:

So Melo has two large towers in the development phase. Edgewater did secure a construction load, and construction will most likely commence this year. So, if your not a fan of this project (Melody), you probably won't like Edgewater. But in retrospect, these are some fine towers as some cities wish they could have such construction. IMO, Melody is a very clean, and straightforward residential tower. Not everything has to be starchitect quality .

This tower was approved a couple of days ago.

The project is planned for 235 and 245 NE 14th St., behind the Arsht Center.

After a prolonged discussion of the project’s girth, the board members were still not in complete harmony with the plan and it seemed headed for denial.

The developer continued to seek waivers for the dimensions of the tower, including an additional 9 feet on each side “for a nicer edge and treatment” and to make room for two-bedroom units.

Board members didn’t feel a hardship was shown allowing for an increase of allowable width.

But a compromise of sorts was reached, and the board approved the project conditioned on a taller and more slender tower. The planning staff said the change may result in one to two additional floors on top of the designed 36 stories.

Melo's Melody Tower Breaks Ground

Quote:
One short week or so after receiving approval from the Urban Development Review Board, even though they weren't exactly satisfied with the aesthetics, the Melo Group's Melody has broken ground across the street from the Arsht Center. Curbed agreed

Just for the record, the FAA approved this tower 2 days ago. Even though it is U/C, all is well with the FAA.

^ This area is rapidly changing & has so many empty lots around the Performing Arts Center that I hope we get some quality towers to compliment it in the future.

That's where Genting is building Resorts World on the east side and on the west side, Miami World Center will fill in some gaps.

I'm really hoping Resort World is never built.
