My guess is Photoshop. The mechanical penthouse doesn't seem to line up right with Frost, and the penthouse is further along in that picture than other pictures.

Weren't there some very similar photos that someone took from the top of the JW Marriott?

Yup. Those were blatantly photoshopped as well.

I don't question the views, but they are rather nonchalant about their lofty perch.

The mechanical penthouse shown there seems about right. The shiny structure you're seeing to the right is actually the HVAC system that will be hidden within the mechanical screen. The concrete structure they're standing on is part of the frame that surrounds it. Those concrete rings will have curtain glass on them just like the rest of the tower. That section will be lit up at night from within.

I'm most intrigued by how he managed to keep his tripod from being blown over the edge.

Here's a semi-close up of that corner of the building.

Soooooo, anyone can just waltz up buildings under construction dt? There's no way they were there by permission....no safety harnesses, hard hats...
I hope someone gets a copy of this photo who can enhance security at these sites. Didn't some dude make his way up the Austonian while under construction, and jumped to his death? Great picture though...

I remember the dude who jumped off Austonian. I still worked in downtown at that time.

Also, in bigger cities like Shanghai, NYC etc, there are tons of skyscrapers much taller than ours that are constantly being broken into and climbed and sometimes jumped off. I'm sure they are secured with alarm, or on site security, but there is always a way around it, I'm sure. I walk by all the time in the middle of the night and these places always seem to be easy to get into.

to the people and photographer...While it's an awesome picture, I think you shouldn't risk doing something like that again. Forget the possibility of getting in trouble, your risking your lives climbing up an unfinished tower. Just because you have gotten away with it before doesn't garantee your safety in the future.

Sorry had to chime in.

Anywho, I'm not sure how I feel about the crown. It's definitely not anything fancy but I wonder how it will look when complete. Sure there's some interesting stuff going on with some of the sides of the building but overall it's basically a typical square box. I just don't know how good the top will ultimately look.

So far it's safe to say this is a pretty stubby building. Going by a 10 point system with 10 being perfect and of course 1 being crappy. I think this tower would have looked a whole lot better if it was slimmed down with added height so I'm taking -5 due to it's stubbyness and lack of any real impact on the skyline. Having said that, I add 3 points because of it's street level impact. Its a stubby tower but it's bulkiness gives it a pretty massive look from the ground. It adds density and fills an area of DT that needs it. It also helps to start closing in the gap along the west side of Congress. I'll wait until the crown is complete to rate it Lol.

didn't you ever watch the croods? lol

also, the fact that it's risky makes it all the more appealing to people like J_type. i'm not into that type of risk... even rollercoasters scare the shiznits out of me, but i understand people's passions for that type of thing and no amount of logic is going to take it away from them. obviously people like j_type have been doing it for quite some time now.

I just caught the end of a news story on KXAN about another worker on this tower being critically injured. This project has an unfortunate history.
