As mentioned in another post the Canadian Tire received the okay from City hall yesterday. Things are falling into place.

This should help make it a bit more clear.

The rental units are still quite close to the bus loop, but hey... thats what you get for not owning in this city!

*EDIT*

It actually looks from the new rendering that the residential component has been moved away from the depot.
instead they get the noise from marine way

It is worth noting that many of the buses that will terminate their routes at the Marine Drive SkyTrain station will be electric and immensely more quiet than diesels. The Main, Oak, Granville, and Arbutus bus routes are all electric. Only the Cambie and Marine Drive routes are diesel. Of course the odd diesel bus makes a run on the former routes but they are the exception to the rule. It is also likely that near the end of service each day there will be electric buses making their way home to the transit centre by the Arthur Lang bridge and it is plausible that they could carry passengers all the way to the Marine Drive station before dead-heading the rest of the way. One last thought, to put 1,100 bus movements per day into perspective, the old Granville St transit mall downtown had more than 2,000 movements per day.

I like this project. Busby Perkins + Will are on fire these days and if they start handing out joint EcoDensity-RAIC awards for advancing sustainable architecture they should be at the top of the list.

I'm assuming all 3 of those towers are strictly being used as office space. They could of combined all 3 towers for 1 nicely sized office building in downtown. But no. Instead they build condos downtown.

Why bother posting in a thread if you don't even read through it first? Look at the second diagram near the top of the page smart guy. And what's wrong with high density commercial next to rapid transit anyway?

Why don't you read the thread before posting...only one is office, one is condos and one is rentals...and whats wrong with density at a rapid transit station? would you rather it just surrounded in single family homes?

well he does raise that point

people on here whine how there are no new towers being built downtown but the suburbs and other areas are getting office towers thus stealing them from the downtown

ie metrotown is getting a 3rd tower - imagine the skyline if all 3 metro towers were downtown

I don't have a problem with offices around the Metro: yes we need more offices in downtown. But spreading them around in different regional and municipal centres isn't a bad thing, and it will encourage future growth around the areas.

If you want a good reason why its a good idea to spread office towers throughout the region, go to Broadway station at about 8:30 am.

I should point out I'm talking about Metrotowers etc., not sprawly office parks.

i love the fact that there are office towers all over the place

metrotown would suck without the towers

all i mean is people whine that there are no office towers/construction downtown and there is no need for them to whine - the region is doing well as far as office towers go they just aren't going in the precious downtown

but as a region we have some good office towers and some coming along

Downtown Vancouver is going to get its share of office towers. Dare I say a mini office tower boom?

As much as I would love to see one huge office tower downtown it is not practical. The metro towers are full of private services such as lawyers, imagine if you had to go all the way downtown to see a lawyer. Just one example by the way.
