There was one complex called Lakeview apartments at the tail end of its life that was demo'd. I visited friends there and it was nasty as well as being a poor utilization of the property. It may have been the very last cheap apartment complex next to the lake in Central Austin.

That complex was my first real home (in the sense that I wasn't couch surfing at someone else's place) when I moved to Austin in the '80s. I lived there for ~3 years, and it was on the front end of a downward spiral way back then. It was mostly U.T. and Texas School of the Deaf students in my building. Calling APD or answering questions by APD officers called to the complex was somewhat common.

Female school of the deaf students were getting stalked and harassed, and APD asked us to help them contact APD by making our apartment a place they could go to when they were threatened. U.T. students were kicking/smashing holes in the sheet rock and breaking light fixtures on weekends in the hallways, and the apartment management asked us to keep an eye out for the perps. It was like living in a micro neighborhood watch zone.

Does anyone know if any of the six tower cranes being used for construction have gone up yet?

The view from Grove/ Montopolis of the skyline is amazing. I usually go there most nights and stare at the skyline for a while.

Does anyone know the investment $ amount Oracle is spending here? including land?
Also, does anyone know the amount of employees this site will hold?

I cannot find this information.
Thanks.

No mention of employees added or cost to buy property. But it's 27 acres according to this article:

Article states an increase of 50% of the current Austin Oracle workforce. The Chamber of Commerce pegs this at between 1000-2000. So this campus could have between 500-1000 employees.

The Business Journal says approximately $300 million all-in, with 500-1000 employees. Good guess sammyk.

Quote:
Oracle’s all-in investment of somewhere in the $300 million range is a game changer for Southeast Austin, and it’s happening at a rapid clip — thanks in part to the city for green-lighting and streamlining construction through its Fast Track Site Plan Process. Based on the TLDR documents, Oracle plans to complete the project in early 2018. Oracle has never disclosed how many employees will be based at the new campus, but estimates are between 500 and 1,000.

Here's a construction progress photo from the Catalyst One & Two marketing brochure that was emailed today. It also includes a rendering I have not yet seen posted. CBRE is marketing the Catalyst buildings but I included that information under the South Shore thread.

Thanks for posting that. I hadn't seen a recent rending. It looks decent.
