New England is indeed civilization. However, for over 20 years now, I have chosen to call the Rio Grande Valley home. It is also civilization. It grieves me that you "can't stand Texas". I would never make similar statements about New England, and your statement says much more about your character than it really does about Texas. Those who choose to freely offend others often have other unresolved issues in their lives that are seriously impairing their social development, and gratituitous, disparaging remarks may lead to further isolation. However, this thread is not about a homesick New Englander.
I would love for this thing to get built. SPI needs another highrise after the problem that Ocean Towers is facing. (Rever to KevinFromTexas, Post # 9.)
Others have commented (in previous threads) that the development in South Padre Island may be somewhat lacking in certain aspects. Remember that SPI
is unique in several aspects. It was largely undeveloped coastal land as recently as fifty years ago. It is in the Rio Grande Valley, which can most accurately be described as a unique culture with elements of both Texas and Mexico. It is clearly the most tropical location in the 48 contiguous states outside Florida. I know of no sentiment to have South Padre Island resemble any other place.
The renderings of this "Ray of Light" seem to indicate that it will fit in rather nicely with the other mid-rises on the island. In renderings, it looks to be around 500 feet tall. Let's get this thing built, recession or not.
