Now, where exactly are the lights mounted? They're not actually attached to every individual panel are they?
The lighting is done by a vertical strip of LEDs on either side of the metal frame between the horizontal strips of metal and the mesh screen behind it. What he will see is the LEDs reflecting off of the screen.

Hi, I haven't been on the forum for a while.

And, I wanted to ask you something:

What is the utility of those rotating glass panels, on the cubic base?
only aesthetic? or a real purpose ?

Whoa. So if I'm understanding you correctly, each glass panel actually has 12 of these "LED frames," one for each horizontal stripe? So how many actual LEDs is that? It's going to be a mother to replace someday.

Can they all be controlled individually? If so, it could allow for some pretty creative lighting schemes, like the Bay Lights in San Francisco. It would be incredible to have a starry cascade of lights moving on the surface of the base at night.

No, but close, the LEDs are on the inside of the frame and project onto the screen behind the horizontal pieces.

As far as I understand, the base and spire will be left white except for special occasions.

The glass panels are aesthetic, but the screens they cover are functional just as the metal on the base of 7WTC is important visually, but also serves as a screen allowing air in and out of the mechanical areas. In essence, a decorated grating to let the equipment on those floors breath.

Cgi 1 wtc

I made this highish-poly 1 WTC 3D model. Not nearly as detailed as PMadFlyer's But it serves it's purpose, however I am still making the texture.

There is a concrete wall behind the glass...

No, the blast walls stop at the 3rd floor, then there's a huge plenum spanning from the 3rd to the underneath of 20th floor, no perimeter concrete walls.

I've always loved the aerial shots of this building. Now that the facade is almost complete, it almost appears to be invisible when viewed from the sky.
