There was a development near Popeyes on MLK that was burned down due to arson months ago. Does anybody know if the developer is going to start that project again or is it just going to be a fenced off scorched dirt lot forever? The burnt houses surrounding it aren't much to look at either.

They're about to start back up. The Oregonian mentioned it in a recent article about increased overnight security requirements at construction sites by the city in the wake of that.

I've heard that it'll be a few floors of apartments over retail.

Here's the article.

At the Monroe, workers are preparing to start again on the 46-unit apartment building. In this case, given last August's fire, plus another fire at the now-vacant house next door, Pavilion will have off-hours guards throughout the construction.

"We were kind of upset it's taken this long. We were ready to get it right back up." Gerritz said. "And we're going to continue to build. We're going to put of a lot of wood in this city."

I'd been meaning to post a link to that. Thanks for the reminder!

Couple more projects

It looks like Guerrilla's Zipper building will be going up soon at NE 28th and Sandy. Lot was fenced off and looked like site prep had started. Sounds like it will be a similar concept to the ocean with micro restaurants.

Also, does anyone have any info on the apartments going up across the street from the Hollywood library? I'm useless at finding information on the city's site. I think the address is 3910 NE Tillamook. The footprint has been dug out for what I assume will be underground parking.

I'm sure a moderator can merge this into the NE Portland thread.

That's great about the zipper project. It really would be nice to see Sandy transform into a friendlier street, and micro-restaurants seem like a great way to do so. The Ocean seems like it's been quite a success.

This is the permit for the building on NE Tillamook. You can view the plans online, but you have to create an account with Portland Online, and fill out their copyright release form. (Just say that you don't need permission, because you're using the drawings for research). I had a quick look at the drawings - it's by Myhre Group. I'll leave my commentary at that.

Design Advice Request Posting Notice [PDF, small] and drawings [PDF, 4MB] for new apartment building just off Sandy:

Quote:
The applicant seeks a Design Advice Request for a potential 6-story, full block development with 220 residential units, two retail spaces and 130 below-grade parking spaces. The U-shaped building would include an at-grade courtyard flanked with retail spaces along NE Glisan, garage access from NE 21st, and residential units along the remainder of the ground floor.

135-apartment building opens in Laurelhurst

A new 135-apartment building will open in the Laurelhurst neighborhood later this month.

The building at 2625 East Burnside St., known as Burnside 26, will open following a ceremony on Aug. 18. It offers studios, one-bedroom and two-bedroom apartments and views over the eastside and downtown Portland. The development was built by Portland company Bremik Construction.
