I really like the brick on this one. I hope to see some more of that with other developments - especially infill, to be honest. The infill buildings could be used for texture between the flashy glass buildings and/or glass boxes.

The unfortunate thing is that of all the lots in and near the warehouse district that are available, it's a shame it had to be that one to get a tower. 405 Colorado will likely be far enough to the left that not all of the view of the Frost Bank Tower will go away.

We picked up the room on Hotels Tonight the day before and 10/10 will do it again. The room was EXCELLENT, the lobby was top notch, drinks were strong, bar food was affordable (considering) & delish and the pool scene was happenin.

We spoke to several employees about the Austin location and each of them were pumped about the addition and said they have their own bar for the Austin market set high.

Honestly, I would put my stay at Zaza above any W experience (stayed in Barcelona, Austin and Dallas). They've nailed accessible luxury. Your stay feels "special" but you dont ever feel like you're out of your league.

The crane is scheduled to come down the last weekend of the month.

It's from the end of May (5/21), but a unique view:

So essentially, and I think that last pic shows, the Zaza is basically the greatest infill tower ever.

It's the best infill in Austin, for sure. One of the best looking buildings in the city.

I think ZaZa goes beyond infill. I think its value as a unique hotel in that part of town elevates it to a legit stand alone. I do agree with both of youse guys about how good this thing looks. And every time a new picture of it gets posted, it looks even better. I think it will especially look amazing lit up at night.

A Towers blurb, reminding us once again that whoever's running the ZaZa has decided that preselling the building may be a good strategy, but just isn't the ZaZa strategy.

https://austin.towers.net/lets-remem...wntown-austin/

and PS. the hotel might as well not actually exist. Still. No real executive staff announced, no want ads for managerial positions, no renderings, no preopening rates. Not even a splash page saying "coming soon."

I wonder if this Zaza will have any secret mysterious rooms like the one in Houston. There was a Reddit thread about one of the rooms there that had paintings of skulls and a one way mirror behind the bed, chains, concrete floor, brick walls and other weird oddities. I always think of that whenever I think of this project.

I wonder whether the hotel portion of this building will even be a ZaZa?

Ah. It would be a bummer if they dropped the ZaZa brand. It's been so fun saying it.

And “staying” it. We’ve stayed at the Dallas ZaZa, and it was fantastic. Hope it comes to Austin.

I suspect the posts wondering if it is still a ZaZa are tongue in cheek. But despite the mysterious lack of marketing by Gables and ZaZa, it is still listed as a future project on ZaZa's website.

The crane started coming down today. By my count that leaves only three tower cranes (Marriott x 2 & Block 71) up in downtown proper. But that count is only temporarily low, and there are probably 20+ other tower cranes surrounding downtown around S. 1st, S. Lamar, SoCo, East side of I-35 and West Campus.
