The Cathedral was built essentially as Cram designed it with the exception of the 132 foot high Central Tower which was never completed ...

A 132 foot tower would have looked great, shame they never finished it. Thanx for the link

Huge post... despite the roofline, the cladding will make or break this development's appearance.

Nice looking picture RyeJay. It is taken from an interesting elevated perspective.

It's very convenient to have a bunch of projects all in a straight line this summer

Good grief! If the building is going to be attached to the Cathedral, couldn't they have least tried to marry the buildings and the materials a bit better? This building, as the renderings depict, could be found anywhere! It's like a slap in the face to the beauty of the Cathedral!

A self-inflicted slap in the face.

It is possible that this building isn't made to match the Cathedral, allowing the church's charm to stand out much more.

But you may be right. The two buildings might look awkward together. We'll find out soon enough!

Good point. I didn't think of it in that manner.

I'm most worried about the material they will clad the base in (it would look ok in the style of Dal buildings) and then the little turrets and dormers.

If those turrents/dormers are clad in beige vinyl siding, this will be the most ugly development downtown. I'm hoping for weathering-style shingles.

Fingers crossed!

Regardless, I find this Cathedral to be absolutely beautiful!

Oh man. This is a disaster. The trillium turned out so nicely and then this thing goes up across the street? It looks like something you'd see beside the Trans Canada on the outskirts of Moncton. Not downtown. Man.
