Thats going to be very exciting to see the Civic Tower(Third & Cherry) go up. Even though it will not be Huge, it will be Iconic.

Hey everyone, I'm going to be in Seattle for one night - Friday, August 24 - and I am wondering if you guys have some suggestions on what to see and do, where to stay, eat, etc.

I don't want to derail this thread, but from my experience the people on this forum know their city better than anyone, so I thought I'd give it a shot. I definitely want to hit the fish market and stay in Downtown or Center Seattle for about $150/night or less (single occupancy).

Thoughts?

I am looking for something related, a rendering or construction photos, to the "1 hotel" that is under construction in Seattle. One just got announced for Buckhead today, so I was wondering what to expect and the article mentioned that the first one is U/C in Seattle.

With a day or so, I'd spend it walking all over the middle of town, from the stadiums to the Space Needle, some good, some not. Hit the waterfront, the Market, the retail district, Pike/Pine (east of I-5), et al. Go up the Space Needle.

Is 5th and Yesler Approved or Proposed because i noticed that fencing started going up on the site. It could be just to keep people out or maybe... just maybe it will soon start construction...

Looks like something major could be happening at the Escala site tomorrow. 4'th Ave will be closed between Stewart and Virginia tomorrow according to the King County Metro website, but it didn't say what the closure was for.

Hopefully! This is one project i can't wait for. IMO its a better project than O8.
The design for O8 is ok but i would have liked to see something better. I can't wait for 1 to get finished hopefully it will drive some of the bad influences to the area away.
I.D.K why that area is so bad?!
Maybe it's McDonalds or all the bus stations. It's weird because 1521 and Hotel 1 are going to be some of the most luxurious condos in Seattle. Yet they are so close to crime, strip clubs, and homelessness.

Much of what's drawn the riffraff to that area for decades is gone -- the pawn shop fence place, some of the parking lots, etc. But the needle exchange is still there, and a couple nudie places, and a couple dive restaurants, and McDonalds. To some extent the riffraff are there for the remaining places. But many riffraff are there simply out of intertia. And of course many southbound bus routes stop on Third or Second. I think the current wave of towers will have s significant effect. Another leap forward would happen if the NW and SE corners of Second & Pike would improve -- I'm looking forward to the Urban Visions hotel/condo tower on the SE, and the mostly-empty building on the NW being renovated, or them even building the tower they've talked about.

What I'd really like to see done in that area is a renovation to the The Moore. I challenge you to find a spot in the wall that isn't cracked or chipped. And the colors, gray, black, and cream, I've been in more exciting mortuaries. Well at least 1521 and hotel 1 will make the walk there from the parking lot more pleasant.
