Wow. There sure is alot going on in Northern UC. I just hope that with Gehry, Traverse Mountain, PG and now this there will be enough demand to fill these projects.

That project sounds really neat. A whole new mall?

I find it weird how supposedly the Gehry thing, a brand new outlet center, a Traverse Mtn retail center, and now THIS are all being planned for the same area. Practically all right across the street from each other.

Anyway. Thats fine. I hope it gets built!

Still no updates on Gehry, though? Very disapointing.

New Justice Center For Spanish Fork

http://www.deseretnews.com/article/1...tator-cvr-7370

Deseret News

Spanish Fork celebrates its new courthouse,

SPANISH FORK — Giant two-story windows let in plenty of light to show off the new artwork on the walls and the gold letters above each new courtroom.
Around back, there's a loading area so prisoners can be safely and securely brought before a judge without being marched through the front door.

Officials Friday morning celebrated the completion of the new Spanish Fork Justice Center. The complex will house Spanish Fork 4th District Court, Juvenile Court and the Spanish Fork Police Department.

Court clerks and patrons are moving from a 2,500-square-foot facility and police officers will leave behind a 12,000-square-foot facility, in exchange for 58,000 combined square feet of elbow room, said Alan Rindlisbacher, Layton Construction Co. spokesman.

I wish Anderson would scale down the project to a nice commuter-friendly walkable neighborhood and move the skyscraper part of the project to downtown SLC.

Eagle Mountain master plan could open door for 417

http://www.deseretnews.com/article/1...256694,00.html

EAGLE MOUNTAIN — A huge master development plan is destined to remove more than 100 acres from the Ranches master plan and carve out a new plan with 417 new homes between the Ranches subdivision and the city center.

Project manager Ryan Kent said the new community is to include a variety of housing types, including single-family homes, condominiums, duplexes and triplexes. The plan includes a 4.5-acre park with nearly three-quarters of an acre dedicated to preserving Indian petroglyphs in the area.

Developers have teamed with Utah Rock Art Research Association and the National Park Service to determine how best to showcase the historic native art and protect it, Kent said.

Park plans also include a lookout tower and trail system, he said.

Eagle Mountain, Saratoga Springs eye express bus to SLC - Residents may vote on a quarter-cent sales-tax increase in November

http://www.sltrib.com/ci_10397389

Eagle Mountain and Saratoga Springs residents will most likely be voting on a quarter-cent sales-tax increase in November to get an express bus to downtown Salt Lake City.
The Saratoga Springs City Council on Tuesday unanimously approved a resolution for the city's participation in the Utah Transit Authority system. Eagle Mountain approved a similar resolution two weeks ago.
...Under the proposal, each city would have a park-and-ride lot and express-bus routes - two in the morning to downtown Salt Lake City and two returning in the evening.

Geneva Site Redevelopment: A rocky, rebar-filled challenge

http://www.deseretnews.com/article/1...257369,00.html

Dennis Astill, project manager and general counsel for Anderson Geneva LLc, stands amid the ruins of the Geneva Steel casting area. (Stuart Johnson, Deseret News)

VINEYARD, Utah County — Electrical cords poke up like weeds through a concrete pad at what used to be the Geneva Steel casting area...

"It took (crews) six weeks to get it down to 20 feet," said Dennis Astill, project manager and general counsel for Anderson Geneva LLC. "It's not gonna come down very easy."

A 400-ton blob of steel resembling a giant black aspirin that was left in a furnace when the factory shut down poses a challenge for developers. It's too heavy to move and too difficult to cut apart. (Stuart Johnson, Deseret News)

What used to be the smoldering, smoking heart of Utah County has long since been closed, leveled and nearly forgotten.

Anderson Geneva LLC, plans to turn the 1,700 acres that was once home to a Utah County landmark into a new, vibrant center of growth, but they know it's a rocky, rebar-filled road.

Maybe that list will get even more companies to move or expanded to the SLC Metro.

I know this has nothing to do with The Valley, but, how is St George not on that list? Wasn't it like, in the top ten last year?

Of the 124 largest,'small metros', St. George is ranked #4. It was ranked number 2 last year. The housing slump knocked it down a couple of notches temporarily. This link also gives the list of small metros.

Ah, OK. That is still really good though. I did her some complaining over some things down there on another website.

It is still doing a heck of a lot better than Vegas, though! It dropped from #9 all the way to 75 in a single year!

Where is this growth going? Is Saint George becoming denser, or is it just sprawl? If it's just sprawl, that is nothing to be proud of!

It's definitely sprawl. Makes me sad.

I can't wait to see a park built around that chunk of iron. Those kind of oddities give a community it's soul.

I'm sure it's just sprawl. The tallest building there is like only 4-stories. But I could be wrong. I haven't been down there for at least over a year.

Doesn't surprise me that Vegas dropped. With all those new unsold condo units in all those new towers they built within the past five years. I always said that Vegas was going TOO first for it's own good.

At least they've been doing a very impressive job with their old city core though. Many old building restorations and new buildings built, in either a very authentic and charming historic mode, or similar. No towers of any significance though. I wouldn't want them to put anything too tall at the 'old-town' core, and I would hope they continue their historic style in that area. Also, St. George Blvd. has gone through some major upgrading recently.

St. George will continue to grow rapidly. I would like to see them plan for a future skyline, with an attractive street vitality somewhere over on the east side of the city & the I-15... Say in the general vicinity of the new med center. I also would think that most of the new St. George residents would appreciate walkable village centers. I don't know what the exact future plans are, but I hope they're setting aside the areas now.
