Uptown, Minneapolis: Lyndale Ave South, West Lake St & Hennepin Ave
These three commercial streets are each a mile long or so and all connect together: Lyndale and Hennepin are north-south and connecting the two east-west is Lake. I noticed it's somewhat common for some commercial streets to branch out a block into the residential areas. These are shared corridors where they serve as the gathering spot of five or so neighborhoods. Here's a map of this urban trinity. Note that I started at halfway down Lyndale, along Lake, and up Hennepin to Franklin, so there are numerous blocks not included here, but it gives you a good idea of what vibe here.
Lyndale Avenue South
When they do sidewalk construction, they don't force pedestrians to cross to the other side or just walk in the street: they're accommodated.

Hope you enjoyed these, because these blisters tell me my feet didn't.

Reason: name correction
You took a picture of the place I work, and also the place I worked at before my current job. Collectively these three streets make up the core of Uptown, which isn't an official city neighborhood with a council but it is what the area is actually called. Uptown is becoming denser pretty quickly, it will be interesting to see what it looks like in 20 years.
Excellent tour and photos! Seems like a great walk too! You should have rented one of the Nice Ride bikes--that could have prevented those blisters.
I never realized how bad the Uptown Theater sign is looking these days, though I guess I'm not surprised given how ramshackle this iconic theater has become. Hopefully Landmark will reinvest some long needed $ into it!
Did you notice the Midtown Greenway? That's become a major biking throughway serving the city.

Actually, I moved here over a week ago and I'm crossing my fingers that I get the OK for an apartment in NE. My feet are still sore from walking so much even while taking buses.
