Funny enough I think most Montreal forumers love Vancouver. I don't know if it's the fact that they're very socialist also, or that many Quebecers travel there as a right of passage or something. Only criticism I ever hear is of green glass. But doesn't everyone criticize that?

"Very socialist also"? "Also"? "Socialist"? "Very"? BTW by American standards the overwhelming support for universal medical coverage in Alberta makes us "very socialist."

I've been to Vancouver many, many times and my experience has been that they TOLERATE Calgary (and Edmonton), they DESPISE Toronto with a passion that nauseates me, and they ADORE Montreal with a blindness that is almost entrancing.

I've only had one extended visit to Montreal but I never caught a bit of anti-Calgary sentiment there, which surprised me given my SSP and SSC experiences.

The bashing in the Canada section is what has kept most of the forumers in their local sections. Toronto representation is a fraction of what it used to be, Vancouver only has a couple posting, and even Halifax used to have a good number of representatives. The constant bashing of Halifax as some back-water village with no role in Canada's future is why we don't even share proposals or construction updates anymore.

Really the Canada section right now is made of plenty of Calgarian forumers, one or two from most other cities, and a healthy number from St. John's. A few of the forumers like Halifax's supposed representative don't even post in their local sections and only troll.

For what it's worth I will be taking a posting hiatus from the Calgary section. It's apparent that I am not welcome here so I will be deleting the construction update photos from my camera.

I am sorry you feel this way, as I have had my fair share of people berate my opinion online. I don't understand why some people have such a need to be right, or their opinions better.

I personally have enjoyed viewing the photos you have posted of Alura and Park, from your apartment. You are welcome here just like everyone else!

The Canada section isn't all Calgarians, there are a number of Montrealers and Torontonians. As far as I can tell there are about 7 ot 8 regular Montrealers and two people from St John's, and about half dozen Calgarians.

I'm not sure why you don't feel welcome here though, nobody has mentioned anything about Halifax the city, or the people of Halifax.

Wait what? When has anybody disrespected you in the Calgary forum? Didn't you just start posting here, like, a few days ago?

Edited to add- okay you've been posting for a few weeks now, but still- what are you talking about? When has anybody attacked Halifax or you on here?

A few pages back somebody posted that Montreal and Halifax both hate Calgary. I can't speak for Montreal but I do know that if Halifax hated Calgary we certainly wouldn't be moving here en masse. People have since agreed with this post.

A few posts later someone explicitly mentioned myself and another moderator in a post stating that we are essentially "trolls" that bad-mouth Calgary. I don't even post in the Canada section anymore unless its big news from Halifax and the only other time I mention Calgary is as a comparative.

With Montreal and Quebec it just goes with out saying that you have to have a dislike of Calgary.

It also seems to be a language thing. I know lots of English Montrealers that live here and are fine with Calgary, yet I have yet to meet a French Canadian from Montreal that has liked it here.

Just bringing these forward. I haven't edited anything but some posts in the last few pages have been edited already by others.

Well by American standards anything that's not the Wild West is socialism... But you can't deny Montreal and Vancouver are much more left leaning than we are here. Could you ever imagine the NDP being voted in Calgary?

I have a hard time imagining how they get a few seats in Edmonton every federal election...

I didn't see your name listed. I think maybe you're being a tad sensitive. The consensus I thought was that Montreal produced the most Calgary haters. I can only think of one Halifax guy that seems like a prick and talks shit but it's certainly not you.

Of course I can. Can you imagine a Muslim mayor being elected in Montreal?

That's a good point. But when it comes to government funding public institutions they both have us beat. Just look at daycare. Also they both have more of a vocal environmental movement and stoner / slacker culture (I'm not saying those are related).

Hey guys, I have moved a whole bunch of posts from the Calgary Construction thread. I'm seeing a bit of orchestration of trolling and this has to stop. I don't usually step in on this forum, but I do read the forum so I do watch what is going on.

The Canada forum is a great place to explore how your city contrasts, colours and compares and we encourage serious discussion of the warts and gems of their city and their region. What we can't have is blanket boosting or denial of warts, as that is not condusive to some of the good exploratory discussion we can have. We are not salespeople nor are we here for marketing, but giving a critical eye to what we have around us.

I notice that many people who are new to Calgary are euphoric about being given the opportunity to live and work in the city and region, but let's not lose our heads. Calgary is a wonderful place to work and live, but if you live here long enough you get to understand the intricacies of the place and discover the warts. Let's take the opportunity to discover them, think upon them and discuss them and see if there are possible solutions. That is what makes this site fun for all users.
