Economy, Recession, Employment

Hi. Im not from Calgary. Just wondering how Calgary is coping with the recession. Is the economy recovering? How about employment? Are there a lot of hiring in the city? It has been said that one can easily find a $15 an hour job even in big boxes. Is it still applicable?

There was a recession?

Calgary seemed to have had as many job losses from mergers and general oil and gas tomfoolery before the recession than as a result of it. The recession was barely a hiccup here, although I suppose people stopped getting 15% raises every year so you could count that.

Plenty of places are hiring although it's not the insane "we'll pay anything!!!" situation of 2007. $15/hour doesn't seem unreasonable although keep in mind that in this city, that's almost poverty level wages. I don't know how a person would afford to live here on just that. Maybe rents are down too...
