Gotta get the place named ASAP if you're gonna get the marketing out there.

How about instead of trying to force contrived names on areas, we just let it happen naturally over time? Not every city has to have an uptown or a downtown or a midtown or a museum district or this or that. Just let the names evolve organically on their own. Then they'll be unique to Austin instead of copies from other cities (namely New York where uptown downtown midtown come from because that's how the Manhattan is laid out).
i get what you're saying and i will pretty much always agree organic > manufactured. but that's just not how the game works anymore

I second this. Easier to just say Uptown for Domain and surrounding areas....

Uptown works for me, I would ask they we get at least one nice condo tower. I feel like that would help solidify it. Right now it’s a lot of apts and shopping.

I used to live in uptown Charlotte and many people still referred to it as downtown. I believe even the freeway signs say “downtown this way” or whatever.

Even a lot of folks in the DFW area refer to Uptown, which is fairly established and still growing tremendously, as "Downtown" only because they don't frequent the area enough to know a difference. It happens.

Interesting! I think I've noticed that as well. Luckily our uptown is so far from downtown there is no mistaking it.

Yeah, one would think. But then you have the folks who go to Meuller and say they're going "downtown" because it's closer to the core than where they live out in the burbs. Communication is as much about speaking correctly as it is interpreting correctly, even with geography.

As this area grows it will need more amenities than just shopping, dining, and a stadium. I really hope to see something like a performing arts theater, art museum, or some type of science based museum akin to this one in Tokyo.

Though, speaking of this type of "museum" as well as different Museums in Japan, I could really see something like Teamlab "planets" or "borderless" making a killing here (though, likely also in a lot of other major US cities).

Groundbreaking imminent for massive mixed-use project near the Domain

Quote:
By John Egan
Nov 16, 2021

A Philadelphia real estate developer is gearing up to begin construction on the first phase of a massive mixed-use project across Burnet Road from North Austin’s Domain complex.

The more than 6 million-square-foot Broadmoor redevelopment project promises to burnish the Domain area’s rising status as Austin’s “second downtown.”

The $321 million first phase of Brandywine Realty Trust’s Broadmoor project will consist of 363,000 square feet of office space in a 14-story tower, 341 apartments, and 15,000 square feet of retail space. Construction is scheduled to get underway before the end of the year, company executives said recently. In the first quarter of 2022, Brandywine plans to launch construction of a 272-unit apartment building at a cost of close to $120 million.

It has those vertical exterior view blockers slapped on the outside. Smart thinking... you want to make sure the people inside have part of their view blocked.

This isn't groundbreaking for the tallest slanty tower, right?

Right. The 308' and 398' office towers are the Block L site plan which has not been approved. The Block A and Block F site plans have been approved. This 14-story "tower" is part of Block A along with a 12-story residential building.
