A year in pictures: Vancouver 2007

Hi all, here is a bit of a summary of all the pictures I took around town for 2007, from the grit to the glamour. They should be in approximate chronological order, starting with Jan/Feb 2007 through to Dec 2007. Enjoy...

Some really nice shots, r13. Thanks for posting them! I haven't been back since autumn last year! I really like visiting Vancouver ... Nice to see all that's been going on the past year. Those crowd shots down Robson St. ... they seem almost as crowded as the Chinese night markets held there during the summer (Insane!)

I love all the street level shots, so often this city is just shown for its skyline and scenery. Great work.

What's up with this photo? Are they constructing Vancouver 2.0?

I can't quite see which photo you're referring to but I assume it is the one with all the cranes. The area is old industrial land that is being transformed into "Vancouver's last waterfront community". The area is known as Southeast False Creek (SEFC). The major catalyst for its redevelopment has been the Olympics as part of the area will be the site of the athletes' village.

You could say the athletes' village is sort of phase one and is the area with all the cranes you see in the pic. It's moving full steam ahead since they're trying to get it all ready in time for 2010. After the Olympics are over, the athletes move out and the owners move in (the athletes will be living in people's already bought condos). The neighbourhood will be larger than just the athletes village though with plans for things like a school and a streetcar line in the future, as well as more housing of course.

Thanks.

Yeah, the first two are, as well as a few others in the mix. Even still they're not quite in the worst areas of the downtown eastside but getting there.
