Chinese investment in Los Angeles and U.S. real estate plunged in 2017 on new restrictions

Quote:
Speculation that Chinese investments in U.S. real estate would plummet after Beijing enacted tighter regulations on outbound investments last August has proved correct.

There was a 55% drop in new Chinese investment in U.S. commercial real estate in 2017 compared with the year before, as spending fell from $16.2 billion in 2016 to $7.3 billion last year, according to a report Tuesday by real estate brokerage Cushman & Wakefield.

Thankfully the Canadians (& So. Koreans) are still here in L.A. & S.D. building (Onni, etc.). Gonna see a lot of activity around Mac. Park (Westlake) as it gentrifies and Koreatown moves east to intersect with DTLA. Koreatown proper around Vermont to Western should also see increased building. Koreans are great for L.A.--Thanks for settling here!

If you get a chance, watch, “The China Hustle.” It will give you pause about the Chinese economy.

Please remind, which high-rises, under construction or approved, are currently bankrolled by American firms. What are other countries doing that local visionaries are not?

Laughing on the outside, crying on the inside. I think The Olympia and the Shenzhen project are both at risk as well. The good news is that we got some huge projects built with Chinese capital (Metropolis & Oceanwide), and there are still plenty of non-Chinese financed projects under construction. Maybe it will be a good thing for the mega-projects to take a beat and let some absorption take place with the new inventory.

Add Mack Urban/AECOM’s Aven on Grand and 12th. The lighthouse hotel planned for the current hooters spot. Cambria hotel. The two towers on 8th near spring. More in planning.

Is Figueroa center Chinese investors too? I really hope not, I’ve been looking forward to it more than just about anything.

If Related postpones it any more, I can see the city suing them for 13 years of renegotiations and subsidizes, and taking back the land and just selling it off. I’m sure everyone at city hall is fed up. Related won’t survive another postponement.

Didn't someone made a huge sketch-up 3D model of all the future/under-construction projects downtown? It was around page 190 but I think it's gone now... Help!
No but I'd really like to see a render of what we could get with all the most recent proposals somehow you know...
