Looks like the original World Trade Center has sex with the future Freedom Tower and this was the result.

It looks to be about 1,125' to the roof with a 375' spire.

another surface parking lot bites the dust. frickin awesome. I'm liking the drawings so far...the sloped roof to spire is a nice touch if you are into the spire thing

Way to go Philly!!! I'm really digging the La Defense style void on the base of the tower.

I'm not in love with the tower's design, but I'm in love with the height. I think women feel the same way about penis.

Wow...this came out of nowhere. I must admit, I'm not exactly a fan of the design but it will definitely take Philly's skyline to the next level of major skylines around the world.

Yeah, holy crap! I saw this on the front page of citypaper.net and came right here. It's awesome. I love all of it.

Now we just need some height around Market East to balance it out.

It would be nice if it wasn't hideous.

Taking off the spire would leave it looking much better, and I like the hotel part, but the overall thing is just so massive and bulky and sticks out like a sore thumb. It would be nice if it had setbacks and didn't go straight to the top (although I suppose the top of the hotel is a setback... although it isn't that visible). It's just so massive and dwarfs everything around it...

How is the main component of this building attractive at all, actually? It's just a block with an ugly stick on top.

I'd be all for a 1,500' building in Philly, but it would suck if the skyline was ruined by a monstrosity like this. I'm sure the design will be changed some from now until (hopeful) groundbreaking... but, IMO, it would take more than a few minor changes to make that thing visually appealing in any way.

Three hours later, still excited! AHHHH! Just look at how beautiful that thing is?! Without Comcast Center, that thing would stick out much worse but comcast bridges the gap height-wise. Design = two thumbs up!

Do people really think it is ugly?? I think it is pretty sharp looking. I don't see how this tower could be offensive?

If this were to be built I would still consider the Sears Tower higher, just like I consider it higher then Kuala Lumpur.

Once again, how the hell is this an ugly tower?

it isn't. besides, don't you think it's a tad bit difficult to judge whether or not a tower is "ugly" based off a few low quality preliminary renderings? any city would love to have this tower.

Not only that...but, (assuming they will all eventually be built), once the two, (possibly three) towers over at Circa are up, BVT, The W, 1600 Vine, Parkway 22, and the new development over on Market are up, our skyline will be so much different, (read: bigger and wider) that this isn't going to stick out. At all. Even more so if we get another super tall or two...

Which reminds me...wasn't there rumors of one on Broad and Race? Whatever happened to that?

I think we are on our way to become "America's Greatest City" and I sincerely hope it gets built.
