I'm a New Yorker, so I'm not trying to start a city v. city debate. I just like the south and have certain impressions about its various cities. I'm curious what others think.
Here's my list (which excludes Miami, which is not the South IMO):
1. Houston (financial powerhouse with a great climate and impressive cultural life/museums);
2. Atlanta (financial dynamo with a nice climate and beautiful topography);
3. Dallas (financial powerhouse with a nice climate and impressive cultural life/museums);
4. Nashville (dynamic city with beautiful old buildings);
5. Charlotte (it's a mini-Dallas);
6. New Orleans (vibrant city with a great winter climate);
7. Jacksonville (beautiful beaches nearby);
8/9. Savannah and Charleston. (I actually like these the best of all of these cities, but since they're small, I bumped them down.)
10. Greenville, SC (Beautiful downtown!)

Is Cincinatti the south? It shares a literal border with Kentucky while the built environment extends seamlessly into Covington, KY and Newport, KY... I'd put that somewhere on the list. I was amazed during my recent vist at the beautiful architecture and 19th century urbanity of many of the neighborhoods. Suprirsed it hasn't made the cultural leap with the likes of Austin, Nashville, Portland, etc.
