WOW WOW WOW~!!! TO's street scene/urbanscape/skyline continues to amaze me. When I used to live in Buffalo, NY, we used to drive up there almost monthly just to sample "big city" living at it's best. Thanks for sharing your superb photographs. I do miss TO and hope to visit someday, if and when airfares start to go down....(probably a pipe dream???)

Fred Herzog? He and I share being german and a love of Vancouver, but I think I'm otherwise outclassed.

Thanks though and it's my pleasure to share. I'll work on some night shots for you...

Amazing update! Glad you got summer captured before the strike too.

Incidentally, this picture is about a 30 second walk from my place:

And I snapped this today on my way back from the GO station (before seeing the latest update to this thread):

Look familiar?

I've been planning to do a thread on the Toronto that I see on a day-to-day basis, but I think you've captured it perfectly already.

Very familiar!! That was my first time in Liberty Village and l loved it.
RE the strike, is it just me or has the city gotten cleaner again in the last week? I chatted with some people on the street the other day who were cleaning up and they said they were paid by the city, and many of these photos were taken just a few days ago. Or maybe I'm just getting used to the mess...

i believe the local business associations are discreetly cleaning up their neighbourhoods. I also see an effort from regular citizens picking up garbage bags or loose trash lying on the street. I hope this collective effort to clean our own city will continue so we can wait until the union caves or we find some way to fire or replace them all (yes, i have no sympathy for the union).

by the way, great pics! I like the pic with "Superior Sausage --- Grateful Head!!"

Good luck replacing all the planners, designers, lawyers, engineers, social service workers etc that work for the indoor union. Pretty much everyone on my floor in Metro Hall has at least a masters degree. And works for approximately the same salary one can get in the private sector. Probably less at the top end, but with better benefits. We're not all uneducated garbage men. For what it's worth I'm a contract worker for planning and don't get ANY sick days. The sooner the strike ends the better.

The reason the city is cleaner is that most BIAs and groups of businesses have started using private pick up. Plus the managers at the city have done an amazing job cleaning up the garbage. My former supervisor at Economic Development has been redeployed to parks and is cleaning up garbage. These workers have recently also got a court injunction allowing for garbage pick up in new areas, which is another reason for the increased cleanliness over the last week. Some of the crazier union members would call these scabs, but I think it's great that they are keeping our city clean.

impressions after dark

A walk along Bloor Street through Koreatown and the Annex and down to College Street after some delicious Japanese food in the Ethiopian neighbourhood for some reason...
