Glad to see the women's rugby team rebound against France (who came to play). Canada didn't "lose" to England they gave that game away. I didn't think England was as good as the score indicated and we were terrible. Much better agin' France.

Unfortunately our semi is with Australia who has beaten Canada more often this year, but our girls won the last meeting. Could have been an easier route though, if we hadn't have blown the England game.

Bronze in Women's Rugby. That was a good game to watch.

Prairie boys Ben Saxton and Chaim Schalk win 2 out of 3 sets against the heavily favourite Brazilians on home sand with partisan audience in preliminary round at Copacabana beach this morning.

Ranked eighth in FIVB World Beach Volleyball standings, the Albertans have a deep volleyball pedigree in Ben. Both his parents played on the Canadian National teams with his father having previously trained at the University of Saskatchewan with his Saskatoon team winning Canadian Nationals CIAU Championships in 1979. His father also competed in the Los Angeles 1984 Olympics giving Canada it's best result in Olympic Volleyball with 4th place.

What's the use of a broadcaster having the Olympics on multiple channels if they're all going to be showing the same bloody thing?

I mean I understand the doubling up when it comes to showing stuff in both English and French, but why are TSN 2, 3, 4, etc. always showing the same thing most of the time?

That's par for the course for TSN. It's quite normal for 4 out of the 5 TSNs to be showing the same event, maybe with SportsCentre on the other TSN.

There is the hope that the broadcaster has that they will have enough events to broadcast simultaneously different events on each channel. Nevermind that people were scratching their heads at the time TSN announced that it was adding channels. Perhaps they are getting contracts to broadcast events on all those channels, perhaps they really do not have what it takes ever fulfill their ambition.

^ I seem to recall earlier this summer seeing at least once instance where TSN will do a CFL game nationally and a MLS game regionally. But that's rare in my experience... you usually don't see two live sports events on at the same time.

I also recall in past Olympics the host broadcaster would even put non-sports channels into sports service during the Olympics... this time it's just TSN, SN and CBC, though. (Or am I overlooking any other networks?)

TSN1, 3, 4 and 5 are regional channels - so it's not really a shock that they mostly show the same things.

Not that I watch whole piles of TSN and SN, but whenever I scan the channel guide it looks like there are usually different things on the different SNs, but TSN is usually the same thing most of the time. Perhaps SN is just better at providing varied programming?

Thanks for the clarification. Still sounds like a missed opportunity. Although of course having multiple events broadcast requires multiple announcer teams, but they'd have people at all of the sites for most of the events anyway, no?

Isn't the whole point of having the regional channels to be able to show different things on them?

Surely you would think during the Olympics that TSN could carry more than one event feed at a time?!

I remember in my youth that CBC would show NHL playoff games on "Country Canada" (a specialty network it had) and maybe on CPAC IIRC.

If that's the case, they should label and advertise them accordingly.

No. It's to accommodate our multiple time zones.

How are you accommodating multiple time zones by showing the same event on each channel?

I don't watch TSN however, regular programming that isn't a live broadcast event should be shown, at the same hour, for each time zone.

^ Considering how much non-live event programming on TSN is Sportscentre or some variation thereof (Sportsnet Top 10 _____ of All Time), I'm surprised it's even an issue for them.
