Here are some Pitt River Bridge shots I took today. This bridge just opened 2 weeks ago (the interchanges are still u/c) and it is replacing two old swing bridges. It crosses over the Pitt River and connects the communities of Pitt Meadows and Port Coquitlam together in Metro Vancouver. This is the second cable bridge to open in Metro-Vancouver this year (the first was the Golden Ears which connects Maple Ridge to Surrey). A third cable bridge is opening next year and another (the largest) has just began construction (the new Port Mann).

And here are some pics of the old North side Pitt River Bridge, soon to be no more.

And here is the growing Coquitlam Skyline from the Bridge

A beautiful bridge on a beautiful day! All pics are my own

Cheers

Thanks for the pics Metro-One. Was wondering what the status of this one was. The third bridge you allude to...Coast Meridian overpass?

Yep, that is the one. The funny thing is all 3 of these new cable bridges are only about 5km away from each other, which is really unprecedented in Vancouver for so many major bridge projects being built at once.

Vancouver's bridge network is going to start looking akin to those in Asia with all the cable bridges.

^ Very consipiratorial, like something that would accompany a tin-foil hat docudrama on Saturday afternoon television.

"...the new Pitt River Bridge is built across a river. So is London Bridge. And the Bridge over the River Kwai. What's under there that they don't want us to know about? Are there trolls lurking down there?"

Anyway, thanks for the pictures.

I was going more for the "people are simply insects, and here we are going back and forth from the hill."

Now here is the scary thought, this was filmed at 1:30pm, the evening traffic is 3X what you see, and that evening traffic for many years was forced to funnel down into 1 lane during the counter flow! I think it is hard to argue against the need of this new bridge.

It's just the A-25 completion, I don't think it has a specific name yet? It seems to progress as planned, and will be complete within 18 months.

There are pictures on the official website:

Maybe I'll take some pics if I go east one day...

Awesome, thanks a lot! Is this Montreal's first modern cable-stayed bridge? I am surprise that there is not more talk about this project, it is a nice looking bridge. Although I am one of the few people on here who seem to enjoy bridges just as much as towers.

No problem! There's an existing cable-stayed bridge between Montréal & Laval: Papineau-Leblanc Bridge
Here's what it looks like in Street View, with Mount Royal and downtown in the background... http://maps.google.ca/maps?hl=fr&cli...145.03,,1,0.03

I did go east yesterday evening (December 16, 2009)

here are the south towers of the cable-stayed part (the rest of the bridge has several little spans, to the right); seen from Laval with Montreal in the background

north towers of the cable-stayed part (right), with the south towers visible (left)

obligatory Montréal-Nord skylkine shot...

Awesome, thanks for the pics! I love cable stayed / suspension bridges. looks like it is going to be a nice bridge! Vancouver & Montreal are definitely Canada's 2 "bridge" cities.

Halifax has a couple nice ones for its size.

The "Papineau-Leblanc Bridge" looks almost identical to the Coast Meridian Overpass U/C in Poco (Metro Vancouver) right now.

Here are some pics of that bridge:

Pics are all my own and from early November I think.

Cheers
