The CBC had a choice: Leafs or Jets. Understandably, they chose the Leafs.

I'll say it again. The impression is Jets fan don't like to share. They would have preferred to be the lone Canadian rep in the playoffs. How nice of them.
And you are basing this on what? A couple of random comments on an internet forum about skyscrapers? Do you realize how many tens of thousands of hard core Jets fans exist? And you paint them all with the same brush with your snarky comments? Time to grow up.

Jets games have been on Sportsnet. Means they've gotten to share in the Leaf's displeasure of listening to Paul Romanuk call games.

I think it's obvious that any comments about fans here relate to you know... the fans here, on this board.

No, the CBC had a choice - Jets or Penguins/Flyers.

The Leafs and Jets play on alternating nights.

It's fine, but it just means that EVERYONE can watch the Leafs and Penguins/Flyers on CBC.

EVERYONE can watch the Jets, provided you pay extra in your cable package to get Sportsnet.

The Winnipeg Free Press article said that Sportsnet made the call, since they own the rights.

It doesn't matter who made the call - HNIC is operated by Sportsnet afterall - but regardless of the arguments justifying the choice, it's just shitty optics IMHO.

Two Canadian teams, playing on different nights. But only one is on CBC.

We all pay to support the CBC, yet Jets fans have to pay just a little bit more to make sure they can watch their team in the playoffs.

It doesn't hurt the serious fans of the team who would almost certainly have the subscription to Sportsnet - but it certainly takes away from our exposure to the casual fan who just likes to watch HNIC on CBC.

Most casual fans in Canada would rather watch the Penguins.

I'm with you there - I don't care about the Flyers/Penguins, but I'd like to watch a Jets game without paying for Sportsnet.

Then again, I'm probably the only one in the thread who likes the Leafs and the Jets.

THAT'S WHAT OTTAWA FANS GO THROUGH EVERY YEAR. Playoffs or regular season, unless we play the Habs or the Leaf's or the NHL's sweetheart teams (Pittsburgh, Vegas), the Sens game is never on HNIC. Last year, we were only on when we were the last Canadian team standing.

This is FU***NG ridiculous!!!!!

Wouldn't Rogers be making MORE money if TO fans had to buy the expensive sports channel packages instead of small markets Ottawa and Winnipeg? Oh wait, I guess they get more advertisement revenue, even with American Teams.

Only in Canada do we argue about the TV coverage while ignoring the fact that both Canadian teams in the playoffs got their asses handed to them in the most
recent playoff game.

CBC doesn't have a choice - Sportsnet makes the choice for them.

Want to know why Sportsnet doesn't show Jets games for free? Because Bell owns the naming rights for their arena, and because fewer would watch their games v. Leafs. Mostly the latter but some of the former.

There isn't much to talk about on-ice for the Leafs. They look like hot garbage.

Babcock's lineup decisions are frankly mind-boggling. Now that the honeymoon period is over with him, some of the criticisms that Detroit fans had towards the end are becoming painfully clear.

I had zero expectations for Plekanec other than to come in and be a solid fourth line centre with some of our young guys and he has still managed to disappoint. Looks like he's just waiting for the off-season to go back to Montreal.

Time to move on from Bozak and JVR. I respect that he's a power play specialist and a consistent goal scorer, but you can't afford to run a line that is so useless at 5 v 5 in today's NHL. The Leafs have enough depth now that they will soon be able to field a full team of guys who came up through their development system and play the style the team wants.

Hopeful for tonight but history is not on our side.

No I think they generally would rather see a Canadian team on CBC as we’ve been accustomed to seeing for the last 65 years or so. Obviously Rogers knows that they will get far more eyes on SN if the Jets are there than if the Penguins are. It is a reasonable business decision but unfortunate for those fans who can’t afford the extra money for SN.

Did someone dress up a corpse and drag it out to this celebration? (bottom right)

This is not last year, Lightning weren't in the post season. This is 2015-16

Regardless, I didn't even know the NBA playoffs were happening, let alone who Toronto is playing (like most of Canada, don't care)

Best series so far...Vegas v. Kings, so dirty, reminds me of 80's-90's hockey

As far as rather watching a Canadian team goes, I really don't care. I have only watched the Leafs this post season in order to watch them lose, otherwise I typically only catch the late games (Ducks v. Sharks and Vegas v. Kings)

I don't really care about what the Jets are doing until they get beyond the first round, then I might start watching them closer, hoping they don't get to the Final

At this point, since the Oilers aren't in it, I'm 100% cheering for teams to lose

There is a bit of a balancing act that Sportsnet (who makes the decisions on who gets what games) is playing.

On the one hand they want to maximize revenue opportunities and so that means the Leafs on CBC.

On the other they don't want their Sportsnet network itself to be an also-ran network with only leftover scraps, so that's why they put the Jets there as in the Canadian context they're the second-best property they have going for them in this year's playoffs.

I saw the ratings for the Jets and Penguins after one or two games and the Jets had an average of 1.1 or 1.2 million on Sportsnet while the Penguins had an average of 550,000 or so. Despite fewer people around the country having Sportsnet it appears the Jets are the more popular viewing choice.
