All the wires are gone from the poles in the view I just looked at, so now it depends on if Brockstall wants to pay MB Hydro to remove the poles or if they want to take them down with their people to save money.

I bet they can get a subcontractor in to remove them for less than MB Hydro would charge. It may even be one of the Subs that hydro uses in Winnipeg but there won't be Hydro's overhead added to the bill.

Wait, Bockstael can do demolition and construction, but can't remove some wood hydro poles?

If the contractor is going to do the removal instead of paying Hydro to do it they would sub it out like most other things are subbed on construction site.

Does Bockstael actually do any of the construction? Or do the sub it out? Maybe they do some of the concrete or steel erection. Even with concrete, lots of large contractors sub out the rebar install to the supplier or other contractor. It's very piece meal from my experiences.

I'm no Hydro or construction expert... but why aren't streets like James having the lines put underground when the entire street is getting torn apart to the core? If it was this "easy" here, it seems ridiculous to not be doing it along with complete street renewals in the rest of the Exchange.

I think the major difference is that years of planning and back and forth happened in private instead of in public.

They do more than most, as a lot of General Contractors sub out more. Typically, you're correct, concrete trades would install seperately installed rebar. Bockstael however also often acts as a concrete contractor, like on 300 Main.

As such, I'd imagine they don't have a need to sub it out when they're the GC.
