Just saying, but the Eugene is gonna end up looking more and more like a thermos bottle in a well-stocked top-shelf liquor cabinet as the Yards & environs fleshes further out.

Talk about wasted potential? Lo and behold.

I mean yeah, it's a hotel, which I know architects usually don't go ham on design-wise; but at least a bit of character would've been appreciated.

Yeah, it's shit. I don't know what it is about it that bothers me so much; I mean it's not terrible and it's far from the worst thing that has gone up lately.
It's just annoying looking. I think it's worse because it's so close to so many new great buildings.

YIMBY's reporting today that the superstructure is close to top-out.

I'll leave the article posting (if desired) to a colleague who can do it right the first time.

Here you go, for the record:

One Manhattan West’s Supertall Superstructure Nears Topping-Out

Quote:
Construction of the supertall office building One Manhattan West in Midtown has made rapid progress since our last reporting in October. The project has reached a few milestones while under the radar, including the superstructure finally stretching above its immediate neighbor, Three Manhattan West. The steel massing is 22 floors below the superstructure, and the curtain wall façade, which just began installation last October, is now 19 floors below the steel. The ballooning steel envelope is now significantly above its immediate neighbors, with the curtain wall starting to reach the same threshold. Skidmore, Owings, & Merrill LLP are responsible for the design.

The 995-foot tall structure will rise 69 floors above ground, creating 2.1 million square feet of new office space. The superstructure currently appears to be about the same height as Related’s 10 Hudson Yards, which would mean 100 feet remains before the pinnacle is reached. One Manhattan West is expected to receive LEED-Gold status.

[...]

Brookfield is responsible for the development. Last we’ve heard, two million square feet remain available for leasing from the five-building development.

Completion is expected in the third quarter of 2019.

The exposed HVAC units really bother me. The glass is pretty cheap too.

^^^^^^^

The facade should of been darker, more in tune with what will manifest at MW 1 & 2. Its kinda an eyesore in that respect, and yeah, the HVAC unit is obnoxious. A tower of that design would be more suitable in LIC. On a side note with LIC, the designs there are kinda mundane. Nothing special really IMO.

I have never called a building "sexy" before, but this is one tall drink of water. Just gorgeous. It makes the otherwise decent KPF Hudson yards towers look positively hysterical. Just silly. And the Eugene is a big fat turd.
