Calgary Zombie Walk 2009

A few photos from Calgary's Zombie Walk 2009. there is a Zombie walk in the summer and one in the fall (that I know of). I happened to be downtown on Sunday and watched it go by. Stephen Ave was full from one end to the other. The Zombie walk started in 2005 with a couple of hundred Zombies and has grown into quite a large number with a few thousand zombies in this year's walk.

Wicked Shots! I'm going to check out the next one.

What's the purpose? or is there one?

It was sunday? I saw a couple hundred people wandering around Saturday in full zombie as well. Couple even made it down to Chinook when I went to see a movie on Saturday evening

As for the purpose, absolutely none that I know of.

This one's a bit hard to explain, unless you're into the whole zombie thing.

Let me put it this way: when George Romero was filming his zombie movies "Dawn of the Dead" and "Day of the Dead", people lined up by the hundreds (thousands) just to be crowd extras in the movies. And this was years before people really cared about being a random extra in a movie.

There's just something that happens after watching a really, really good zombie movie, that makes a person forever want to get covered in zombie getup and stagger around for an afternoon.

You kinda either get it or you don't.

That's pretty awesome. What happens later on? There must be tons of of zombie parties. Do clubs get into it also with zombie nights?

This reminds of the Sunkhran festival in Chiang Main Thailand... undoubtably the biggest party on heart with about 500 000 people throwing water at each other and partying for 5 days and 5 nights.

Cool pictures. Are you sure the walk wasn't on Saturday? I was downtown and saw the mass of zombies. They were also on 17th ave.

Next year I'm going to go down there with a camera/

There's usually a zombie party somewhere at a specific club. When I was participating it was the Warehouse.
Many cities all around the world have similar such zombie walks and they're a blast to be in. People's reactions are priceless!

Zombies are awesome. I have been known to hold Littletime and stick out her arms and chant "zombie baby zombie baby", she usually smiles or laughs!

Let me assure you, zombieing is it's own reward. There's just something amusing about seeing a scene from a bad horror movie come to life. The responses from civilians are always great (although there's always one or two bystanding kids accidentally scarred), and it's fun to compare costumes, engage in zombie antics and generally be amused by your fellow zombies and their imagination. This year, some of my faves were the crew of undead Star Trek redshirts dragging a Kirk corpse as they get their revenge, and the guy who came as an old man with a walker, with "help me" written in blood on the walker and one hand a fake detachable one.

PS: I'm featured in one of the pictures Tobyoby posted; great shot. (But I'm not saying which one.)

That looks cool! I'm going to have to pay attention to when it takes place next year so I can check it out. I never heard about this, I'm surprised it isn't at least in the newspaper.

That's so badass!

I hope this would catch on in other cities. I know they do these in California annually.

The best part is seeing the zombies around town afterwards... I saw a couple sitting casually in the Palomino on Saturday early evening, and then another in Inglewood later on.

That's insane! I'm joining in next year.

Anyone know who sets the date for this? Is there like a Zombie association or something?
