moshe safdie: condominium at bishan central

international practice safdie architects has designed 'condominium at bishan central', a 38-story residential complex in the bishan district of singapore. the high density housing block satisfies the needs of the growing urban center while providing family and community spaces and amenities. lusciously planted gardens encompass the two buildings and infiltrate the connecting bridges and bountiful outdoor terraces. inhabitants have access to open-air pedestrian pathways at three different elevations with panoramic views of the surrounding tropical landscape as well as cooling breezes as they sweep through the canyon-like void between the structures. this arrangement dually provides air movement to individual units while the matrix of balconies encourages cross ventilation to pass through the interior spaces. the clustered vertical city mitigates the feeling of concentration by maximizing each dwelling's connection with nature with access to personal outdoor gardens.

A lot of great projects here. Some look really good, while others look really weird. I only wish Canada contributed more to this thread.

foster + partners: kuwait international airport

internationally practicing london-based firm foster + partners has revealed the design for the 'kuwait international airport', an air hub for the gulf region located in kuwait. the trefoil plan will accommodate the projected increased influx of transient visitors, growing from an initial 13 million individuals to over 25 million per year with future development and eventually accommodating 50 million annual travelers. the state-of-the-art terminal building intends to provide ultimate comfort despite its positioning within the arid desert amidst one of the hottest habitable climates on earth. gates extend from a 25 meter high central atrium and are distributed between three symmetrical wings which reach a span of 1.2 kilometers. the linear arrangement contains three levels programmed for arrivals, departures and baggage claim with minimal vertical changes produces a user friendly organization.

Riviera TwinStar Square, Shanghai, China
Arquitectonica completes bank HQ overlooking site of historic shipyards

A 200,000 sq m project consisting of two 49-storey office towers on a riverfront site, Riviera TwinStar Square is located at the former home to the city’s shipyards. The client gave no design mandate but there was a site with a history. The Shanghai shipyards had had an important presence on the riverfront for two centuries. The architects felt that the buildings should be a monument to its contribution to the city.

Roskilde is a Copenhagen suburb, so it's in Denmark, not in NL.

That Wisdom Plaza is sexy. I loove how raw the natural areas feel but they're surrounded by these glossy sexy buildings

That Kuwait airport looks sexy too. I really hope they use colored concrete inside. It'd look soooo classy

Urban Forest / MAD Architects
By: Ryan Kemp | October - 11 - 2011

As the twin towers in Toronto, Canada’s Absolute World development near completion, MAD Architects look to break ground on yet another arduous skyscraper concept. Located in Chongqing, a major city in founder Yansong Ma’s home country of China, the Urban Forest proposal reiterate MAD’s design approach of syncing architecture with nature. Aesthetically evocative of the surrounding mountainous terrain, the peak-and-valley elevation is generated by the successive cantilevering of the floor plates. Abstractly curved, the floors are un-referential to what is above and below, rendering the high-rise building as a swaying tree in a forest of towers.

Loft Tower / XTe a+d

Designing in Lima, a city of marked eclecticism is more a provocation than a challenge. The vibrant movement of forms, heights, colors, reflections, textures and all kinds of elements competing for the leading role is a particularly interesting framework for XTe a+d‘s proposal for an exclusive, loft apartment building. More images and architects’ description after the break.
