Former Vons lot at Barrington and Santa Monica, apparently the area needs another Whole Foods-
Landry Design Group no less, the mansion king of L.A.

Love the planting, but I doubt the city will approve the curved planters. It is too easy to be a ramp from the street. there are a lot of rules about what kind of structures can be built. It will be interesting to see what changes have to be made.

Love this one, and hope it is built as is.

That lot at SaMo and Barrington has been defunct for far too long, and that would be an amazing replacement! Do it!

Looks exhausting. But I like the open views of Wilshire, Japanese Pavilion and the Tar Pits.

LACMA should start from scratch on this one.

The LACMA redesign looks like a shopping mall. Just sad.

I don't think it looks exhausting; in fact, I like that it looks like most of the exhibits will be on one level. Going through LACMA as it is now is actually quite exhausting.

And I like that it's a very nontraditional museum building; it doesn't follow the street grid and is not shaped like a box. It really is kind of amorphous. It literally thinks "outside the box." I'm also glad that they changed the color of it, too. It suits our climate better than something that would be all black.

My only beef with it is that some of the ceilings look too low, at least in the renderings.

It looks like the Getty Center and MOCA.

Both consist of vertical blocks connected by a horizontal element. At MOCA, the horizontal element is the underground gallery which joins the blocks at the plaza level. At the Getty, the terraces connect the various galleries (pavilions).

Give Zumthor credit for figuring out that MOCA and the Getty have a similar topology and making a claim with his building for its primacy.

(Great architects see beyond the obvious.)
