Where can I find stats for other cities in the Bay Area?

If only we could annex Brisbane and Daly City we would be over 1 million by now.

Only county and metro estimates were released. City level data will be released in May.

Why would we want to do that? We are a Charter City in our own county. I don’t want their problems or issues in addition to our challenges.

^^If the additional land could be developed more intensively to satisfy the demand for housing in the city, it might make sense. But as things are we can't even build anything west of Twin Peaks and in substantial swaths of the city east of Twin Peaks. Annexing Brisbane and Daly City would just mean adding to the vast tract of the Sunset and other low rise neighborhoods that are essentially off limits to development.

1699 Market St. at Valencia St.

I managed to get a view through the fence today of the progress at the former site of the Flax store.

^ Wow. Fantastic!

I love how from that angle, One Rincon Hill and Transamerica bookend the skyline.

Sfo

oh OK, since it seems to be a slow news week...

SFO has lots of plans for renewing itself, but what seem to be the three major projects ongoing currently are

- an on-site hotel, the Grand Hyatt at SFO

pretty sure that is what this crane is for, tho you can barely glimpse the activity

- converting the area of the old tower into a viewing deck

no close-up, but the crane for this is pretty prominent from many angles as one taxis around

- expanding terminal 1

Taxi'ed pretty close to a lot of this both early last month, and in early Feb. Seems to be a pretty massive addition. Thanks for the photos

Anyone able to get/find a better picture of that tower crane? looks unique with the red/white jib. Seen a lot of cranes at airports that didn't need to have the boom colored like it appears that one is. It does, however, look about twice as tall as other tower cranes I've seen though so I guess that the FAA required it because of that. In fact, if I recall the crane that built the new air traffic control tower at SFO had just its standard yellow jib and it was the same height if not taller.

My live shot of the Terminal 2 tower crane isn't as good as timbad's so I'm not posting it, but this older Terminal 1 shot is at least colorful.

I'm out of town for another 2 ½ weeks so I don't know if this has already started but:

Quote:
In early 2018, construction will begin on the (Asian Art Museum's new addition): a new, 13,000-square-foot exhibition Pavilion and Art Terrace added to the east, Hyde Street side of the museum’s historic Civic Center home (The beaux arts building was originally constructed in 1917 as the city’s main library and was repurposed as the museum by Italian architect Gae Aulenti in 2003).

Designed by architect Kulapat Yantrasast of wHY, the Pavilion — characterized by a rusticated gray terra-cotta tile exterior and gem-shaped bay windows — will allow the museum to increase the number of temporary exhibitions offered each year, and will be one of the nation’s premier venues dedicated to Asian art.

Other elements of the museum’s transformation include: dedicated spaces for contemporary art experiences; new approaches to displaying masterpieces in the museum’s collection galleries; upgrades to education classrooms and new digital technologies for enhanced interpretation.

The Pavilion is scheduled to open in summer 2019. The museum will remain open during the transformation project, but collection galleries and some public spaces will close briefly on a rotating basis for reinstallation. Regular updates will be provided on the museum’s website: www.asianart.org.

According to the Business Times, this project has been delayed by another year and is facing other problems.

I saw no evidence of anything happening yet on the Asian Art Museum expansion project during my visit last week.

I had thought likewise and was surprised it wasn’t fully integrated into the building, with a floor aligning to the second floor windows.
