At the last CDR, Cecil said 1213 Walnut's property boundary walls were supposed to be glass because the developer promised they were going to obtain the air rights. Fast forward to the last CDR and Cecil now considers what happened there a lesson never to take a developer's word for it. "Now we are stuck with ugly" (paraphrasing)

Wow, that's a quote that will probably come back to bite him in ass in the future, considering the designs his office has been turning out lately. And who would ever trust that a developer is going to do something as difficult as obtaining air rights. Just a flat out stupid statement.
The phrase "now we are stuck with ugly" could well be the motto for the CDR process.

Isn't this 8th and Market's white night Ken "Suburban Shopping Mall" Goldenberg?

Gee, really surprised he doesn't give a f*&k about what this wall looks like.

When will this guy just go away?

Mind you, he was saying this to the Toll Bros. team while they were presenting their Jewelers Row tower. Their design, as is, ALSO requires air rights not yet fully owned. A whole lot of them, on multiple sides. Cecil was saying it as a warning to them for when they ACTUALLY present to CDR. In this instance they were just presenting as an 'information only session.'

Meaning-----you brought a quote from Baker about a completely different building into the conversation about 1213 Walnut St? Or did he say something similar about this wall that we're talking about here?

I changed 'those walls' to '1213 Walnut's property boundary walls' for clarification in the originating post at the top of this page.

Am I the only one who actually likes the blank wall? Unlike other blank walls that I have seen, this one actually looks really good. I would prefer glass, but there is the potential that something may be built on the adjacent plot in the future, especially if a developer can come along and consolidate several parcels.

Such a great addition to E. Walnut/Sansom, but oh those blank walls! Some giant mural would've helped -- giant men, abstract shapes, anything. It's been done elsewhere in the city on blank walls much less in need.

I drove by today, so I wasn't able to take any photos - but it's looking good. With the windows and "brickwork" well up the building, the big blank walls aren't looking as bad.

1. The garage needs a screen.
2. Fergie's needs a powerwash.

As they say in the antiques world, that's just "patina."

You want to do something about the blank walls?

Replace the adjacent low rise buildings with towers.

I like this project a lot...

then there's that blank wall.
Perhaps a giant, brightly colored mosaic.

Philly is a city of murals, after all.
