UofT Centre for Civilizations and Cultures Design, proposed to replace the empty Planetarium, and which will feature a concert hall overlooking the skyline:

Looks a little like that new art gallery in Vancouver.

It really crushes the old building next to it.

I was going to ask if that was a redesign of the VAG. Never miss an opportunity to use that acronym. Never.

It appears to have more crevices than the VAG.

That's a brutal proposal from U of T. Hardly respects the character of the area and on top of that demolishes the planetarium which should've been renovated and open for the public IMO.

On the other hand, I like that BC proposal, it's design looks fair and it's not overly tall.

As cool as the concert room is, it's completely out of place for that part of the campus.

Yes, agreed. It's an unfortunate replacement. The gold is just...ugh.

The gold thing is weird for an institution dedicated to learning. It's an ostentatious statement that would fit more a luxurious store or a casino.

Just a normal 6-storey mid-rise arterial infill rental proposal in the City of Vancouver.

I think that it's worth sharing not because it's particularly impressive, innovative, or precedent-setting, but rather because it's indicative of what is emerging as the standard run-of-the-mill assembly and rezoning approach these days for "workhorse" mixed-use arterial intensification in single-family dwelling neighbourhoods, and with secured market rental units, no less.

Overview: http://www.vancouvermarket.ca/2019/0...r-fraser-19th/

Rezoning application: https://rezoning.vancouver.ca/applic...erst/index.htm

That's a great development to see for Vancouver, especially with dedicated rental units.
