I hate fake trolleys. Any city that uses them is immediately lame, IMO.

That includes Alexandria.

^The ones in Austin are NOT tourist traps though. They actually are handy around downtown, whereas the ones in San Antonio drag you around to all the attractions. And they're never passed off as being "trolleys" or streetcarish.

Our buses actually come from a company in Ireland, and the new commuter rail cars for our commuter rail system are from Switerzland.

Heres a selection of Calgary's liveries:

Classic two-tone blue livery (only 1 bus left with this one):

1990's three-stripe:

Most of the D40LF fleet, this single D40, all the GM Classics and all but the one fish bowls are in this one

And most of the U2 and SD160 LRT fleet (except for SD160's 2233-2272)

New red and silver:

All D60LFR's, and D40LFR's (except for new units which are in service in plain white currently) as well as the last order of D40LF's

EZ Rider's

And SD160 LRV's

Of course, most recent additions to the fleet recently has done time like:

Usually for a few weeks or months until they can get them through the shop to get the colors done.

Erie Metropolitan transit Authority (EMTA)

I hate these things. Cheesy. Free though from the city's bayfront to downtown.

The problem with the fake trolleys, even the ones with useful routes, is that they give off the impression that transit isn't something to be taken seriously as a contemporary form of transportation. They say "this is a cutesy thing to do for fun, but for goodness sake don't use it if you really need to get somewhere".

They play into the false perceptions spread by the likes of O'Toole and Cox. They are counterproductive.

I agree 100%. I almost didn't even want to post the photo, but I figured itwould spur good discussion. I've tried to explain as much regarding the counterproductve nature of the ridiculous "trolleys" to friends and they act like I'm taking it too seriously and that I need to lighten up. I dislike them for the reasons you both mentioned, plus I think they look like cheap crap.

Buses in London tend to come in one main colour: red. However as there are so many bus operators in London, they add a slight variant to the bottom of the vehicle chassis

If folks want to show off their trains, let's create a separate thread. This is for BUSES.

It's overkill. Why the faux wood paneling? What a disgrace.

Kansas City, KS

...That's Kansas City, MO

Here's our two bus types:

our fancy "MAX" BRT line (not many dedicated lanes... so not very "rapid"):

and here's our standard buses:

standard paint job on a shorter one:

usually they're covered in advertising:

and hybrid vehicles for dial-a-ride services:

It's worst when that bus-wrap advertising is for a car dealership.
