To be honest it's not a terrible building at all. An addition is an addition, and I've seen much worse. Hopefully it will be soon joined by those more 'attractive' towers.

I agree, its not terrible, but, it seems to lack harmony. Its like two different buildings on stacked on top of the other. Perhaps the thin unfinish portion between them might provide a nice transition, but, I guess you have to label me skeptical.

I hate to say it, but this building is just kind of drab. It also seems to be working it's way towards being taller than all the other 6th ave towers (although I think the one at the Jack's 99c store a few blocks north is actually slated to be taller - speaking of which, it's above ground on about the 3rd floor right now, and I don't think we have a thread for it).

Going by it's "proper" name now...

I must say, despite the initial impressions, this has turned out to be a beautiful slender tower. I really like it and I think it’s a great addition, definitely a ‘better than the render’ example.

If I say I like Astoria (and I do!), can we agree to disagree?

I used to like it, but now I don't. It's got good height though.

i'll withhold judgement on the facade, but i like it because its relatively nimble and slender and especially because it's adding some decent height around there.

Yes, on the positive side it does have a nice aspect ratio. And, it contributes to the extention of the midtown south skyline; The ESB looks less lonely, if that makes any sense. It still lacking pizzazz. The top portion is truly dull and conservative.

This building may be a nice one. I just won't really know until I check for myself. I'll have to take a good look at it in person and then I'll report back. These photos can be misleading sometimes. Anyway, a photo is always just a representation of reality. The real thing is always more telling.
