LOS ANGELES | Residences at Columbia Square | 20 FLOORS

Quote:
Los Angeles city officials joined today with the developers of Columbia Square — a 680,000-square-foot, mixed-use creative office development on the site of the historic CBS broadcast facility in Hollywood, to mark the start of construction on the $380 million project. Councilman Mitch O’Farrell took part in the groundbreaking ceremony at Sunset Boulevard and Gower Street. The massive project will cover an entire city block — nearly five acres — and feature 30,000 square feet of retail and 365,000 square feet of commercial office space, according to the project’s website. Plans call for five levels of underground parking.

Is that the final design? It's changed at least five times since first proposed.

Very nice. A lot of these mid rises have been springing up all over the area. Fits perfectly with the area.

I like this one. I agree. this one fits in nicely with the area. This will be the future of what the Hollywood skyline will be very soon.

When I asked a couple of months back, the PR rep said that this was the latest design, although not 100% finalized. But given that they've already started laying rebar, this is probably what Kilroy is going with.

Thanks for creating the thread, blackcat23. This will be a huge shot in the arm for what is already the most walkable part of Hollywood. The original Columbia Square building is really one-of-a-kind and the new buildings will complement it nicely. It's very exciting to see it moving forward.

On the Sunset Boulevard side, here's how the original Columbia Square buildings are looking right now. It's not pretty to see them gutted, but I'm sure they will look fantastic once they've been restored.

These pictures will be nice to look back on in a couple of years.

From what I saw yesterday, the residential tower looks like it has made the least progress.

I work across the street for this month so will continue to take pics.

I love how the rehab of the original Columbia Square buildings has turned out so far. The brightened paint gives the very handsome Moderne design the visual pop that it should have always had. I can't wait to see what they do with the reopened courtyard.

^ Absolutely. I don't understand why we aren't seeing more streamlined designs in this city. It's a style that's attractive, relevant, and cost-effective. Enough with the flamboyant shit.

Exterior renovations of the historic main buildings on Sunset seem to be largely complete. The new paint scheme looks wonderful, and it gives the Streamline Moderne design the pop that it should've always had.
