There's talk of shifting Florida Ave in an arc to the south to give the south end of the stadium more breathing room, when they get around to that part of the renovation in X number of years. (That part of the renovation is on hold for now.)

Ya. I'm Ok with that being on hold. I'd much rather have them get to Assembly Hall which is looking a little outdated.

^ I'd much rather not see them dump even more revenue into non-academics (aka athletics) and stay off the 4%+ annual tuition increases . . .

Ha. Well let's be realistic here. This is the big ten. You know what the real priorities are.

309 Green Update

The views through floor to ceiling glass at this height is simply unparalleled in Champaign-Urbana. Take a look for yourself...Images shot from the 10th floors and 17th floors. Imagine the views from the 24th floor.

Damn those are sweet views. I never got the chance to go up in Universtiy Inn (or whatever it's called now). 8th floor of Wardall was the heighest I ever got.
Did you rent that unit, or were you just looking?

We really need to convert this thread to a general Champaign rundown (Mods what do you think?), cause I'm hijacking it again.

I got my Illinois Alumni magazine today, and there's an add for a new project called 'M2' at 301 N Neil that I don't recall seeing before. Looks to be a 9 story mixed use in downtown Champaign.
www.m2onneil.com
The website claims the office is 70% leased and the condos 30% sold.

While I realize it's highly unrealistic, I'd love to see them go UNDER instead of around. It'd allow them to create a square/courtyard (with a memorial or something of the sort) as well as make crossing safer for basketball games.

309 Green Occupied!

The project team beat the odds and students have officially moved into the building at 309 E. Green St. The contractors did an amazing job of making up time and getting occupancy...Job well done. Students are in and happy to have the best darn views in town.

I'm surprised they received an occupancy permit. This one doesn't even look close to being done. These are some shots I took on Saturday.

309

Floor 9 (the first balcony you see) through floor 16 received occupancy.
Floors 17-24 will come online for rent next semester which was the developers plan knowing the full building wouldn't be done by this fall. The exterior is very misleading to the common eye but interior work was chasing up the building as soon as the first portion of residential glass went in which assisted in getting occupancy. Unit interiors look spectacular and look more like residential condos than student apartments.

Some residents still unhappy with new 309 E. Green apartments

Some residents from the apartment complex at 309 E. Green St. were permitted to move in to their new Roland Realty housing Sept. 5, but not without additional problems to an already complicated situation.

Reech Wuliji, senior in ACES, said they were supposed to pick up their keys from the leasing office and move in at 1 p.m. Instead, he was forced to wait four hours until the building received occupancy permits.

"Everyone that was waiting was extremely pissed off and didn't really understand why we had to wait so long," Wuliji said.

Thanks. The construction schedule seemed really ambitious from the get go. Did the developer have any experience with high rise construction coming in? Are there developers in Central IL that, like some developers in larger cities, focus just on multi unit mid and high rise building?

First the Whopper, now the IHOP Tower across the street

Multiple highrise buildings planned for Green Street.

1) Fourth and Green - currently an IHOP and convenience store.
Retail, 143 apartments, car elevator
267 feet

2) Parking Lot J - currently a huge parking lot in the middle of Green Street right between Legends and Chipotle
Two 12 story buildings, 108 room Marriott hotel, 297 apartments, retail, and a parking garage

3) Couldn't find an image of this one yet, but Bankier is planning a 14 story, 40 unit building (with parking and retail of course) across the street on Sixth and Green. Apparently Gameday and other existing tenants have been told to vacate before demolition starts on June 1.

4) On Second and Green, Garcia's and White Horse Inn are being replaced by a 5 story apartment building. Typical brick schlock, but 50 units and modern retail space are always welcome. Kinda scared now that they will soon replace the amazing bank and apartment building across the street though.
