Was in Hell's Kitchen today, man this building is huge. The bulk of this, combined with the HY towers is really something to see up close. We've been downtown mostly of late, so getting to the area, particularly as you head in and out of the tunnel is crazy right now with the heights of these new towers.

This relatively small part of the skyline is bigger, better, and more unique than entire skylines for many world cities.

If everyone could just look at the "1st" photo in post #2124 . Notice that traffic on the street? That section of Midtown, towards the tunnel, has what is known as epic gridlock. A couple of weeks ago back in May, I was literally stuck in 30 minutes of gridlock. I only moved 2 blocks within that time frame. I later found out it was because 2 buses crashed near the Lincoln tunnel. But word to the wise, careful, because all it takes is one little incident and the area is a parking lot.

In general, because of the construction, there have been a lot of moments of gridlock. Sometimes it can also result from a truck or bus getting stuck and people do not yield or give chances, especially those terrible taxi drivers.

8th/9th Ave during rush hour is madness. Better off on West Side highway.

It is a shame that Manhattan West has become glorified filler compared to earlier plans.

Why are the walls overlapping at the top?

That is just the slip form work I believe, or in this case since it is a steel tower it is an enclosure that rises with the building. It maintains the width of the building at its widest as its rising. At least that's what it seems in this instance.
