Knoxville, 2010-2016

between moving overseas, getting married, and having some kids i fell behind on posting photos. so here's some photos of my hometown taken between 2010-2016. i organized as best i could by neighborhood with information on notable demolitions (and it's scary how many occurred during this time IMO).

East Knoxville is the section of Knoxville, Tennessee, USA, that lies east of the city's downtown area. It is concentrated along Magnolia Avenue (US-70/US-11), Martin Luther King, Jr., Boulevard, Dandridge Avenue, and adjacent streets, and includes the neighborhoods of Parkridge, Chilhowee Park, Morningside, Five Points, and Burlington.[1] East Knoxville is home to the Knoxville Zoo, the Knoxville Botanical Garden and Arboretum, and Chilhowee Park.
Urban renewal projects in Downtown Knoxville in the 1950s and 1960s displaced numerous African American residents, many of whom relocated to East Knoxville. Most East Knoxville neighborhoods remain mixed neighborhoods

Fun tour LSyd. I spent a week in Knoxville about 25 years ago. Seemed like a pleasant place with a decent college town vibe. Had dinner at Patrick Sullivans a couple of nights, and spent some time in the old city. Fun stuff. It's a pity about the Pickle Mansion (pic #39), I thought it was going to be demolished. Thanks for the tour.

This is a great tour. My sister moved to Knoxville, after college. It's a very interesting place to explore. The last time I was up there, not long ago, we visited a new bowling alley in a beautiful old building.

A Lego model (55) of Huntsville's skyline in Knoxville?

Nice photos. It's been a while since I worked in Knoxville but I recognize a few landmarks. You're from Knoxville and are not familiar with Chattanooga?

Seems most people just pass through Knoxville on their way to somewhere else, but they really shouldn't. Thanks for showing us some of the beauty that lies within.

Tennessee is a bit overlooked. They have like half a dozen decent cities. Nashville is booming. Chattanooga is gorgeous. Memphis has historic charm and growth. Then there's Knoxville and others. Nice shots.

Nice photos. Knoxville is a very fun place to visit. I have family that live down there and I visit quite often.

i didn't notice it when i took this but that's because i've only seen that skyline at night and in inclement weather. but now i see it and i need to ask the builder about it.

it is, and it's also, IMO, a conservative hellhole i'm happy to no longer be a resident of, even if it has some underrated cities. now i need to work on my Memphis pics from 18 months ago. or go back, since it's now one of my favorite US cities since it almost has a pedestrian-only street and lots of historic charm and quirk.

what do you mean by that? is it that you have to go to the right church to be included in professional circles/opportunities, etc? at least nashville seems pretty live and let live, on the surface, and full of all kinds of people now.

I assume Lsyd is talking about political conservatives. East TN is getting as bad as AL. I agree with him.

pretty much this. modern Nashville may improving.

not that it's much more liberal elsewhere in the south, but having lived in rural western Louisiana, Birmingham, South Carolina, and Augusta, politically for my opinions i'd rate Tennessee as worse, with more annoying and in your face conservativism. my two cents.

crap, now i've turned this into a political discussion...sorry.

i plan on going to Chattanooga next year, and hopefully get off the beaten path in northeast TN.
