Sactown Photos - Page 11

Yesterday I grabbed my Canon EOS (yes, FILM) and went out to snap a few photos of Sac town. I love everyone's photography in this forum, so I'm going to try to give a little back. It' a work in progress. A sac specific photo thread will come in the next month. Until then, here are a few shots.

Greetings all.

I found some old slides (yup, slides) from the family vault.

Two of these were taken back when old sac wasn't quite the Old Sac we know today.
Remember the old China Camp restaurant?

This photo was taken somewhere in Old Sacramento but I'm not sure what street it is.
I'm thinking either K or J st looking towards the river.

I found this pic of the Rancho Seco Nuclear Power plant when it was powered up.

And finally a shot of the Tower Bridge at Sunset.

Wow!

I'd guess it was K Street, that is the old Southern Pacific freight office in the background so I'd venture the photo is from the late sixties? Obviously they had not yet torn up the sidewalks and added the plank walks.

I assume the China Camp photo is more recent (seventies or eighties?)

I have seen a lot of older pictures of this neighborhood in B&W but very seldom does one see color photos. Thanks for sharing yours!

That sounds about right. The second Old Sac photo was taken before I was born so 1968 or 69 wold be the right time. There are other photos that I've seen of Old Sac before the rehab but I couldn't find them. But I'll keep looking.

Thanks for sharing the shots innov8, Ryan, and pete. Hey does anyone have a shot yet of the federal building with the crown lit. And has anyone gotten to the bottom of the mystery over the recent occasional return of the architectual lighting on the building. It puts a smile on my face when I see it and it does wonders for the skyline....

Thank you. I have no idea why they always come out so grainy. Maybe that's because I don't have a filter?

I think it could be the ISO setting which on a digital camera indicates it's
sensitivity to light. The higher the number, the more noise or grit on a photo
depending on the conditions. I usually shot outside at 200 ISO. The amount
and degree of noise varies from camera to camera. Shooting at a lower ISO
number requires more light than shooting at a higher number. Lower numbers
result in images with the least visible noise, which is desirable.

Yeah, if you use a high ISO, especially in film, the grain will show through. And film is always more grainy/noisy than digital.

Nice one. Its great to finally see the entire skyline of Sac without a crane. Its been a few years.

I was posting up on the corner of 19th & N. Great crowd... loud, semi-drunk and boisterous. Enough cowbell to make Christopher Walken and Phil Jackson flee the city.
