Rumor has it that an additional floor is being looked at...
We'll see as new structural drawings should be out end of this month/beginning of Oct.

That seems likely because the site plan went inactive (pending change) after the elevations were released.

The rumor about the additional floor was true. The site plan was posted to the AULCC site today.

ftp://ftp.ci.austin.tx.us/ATD_AULCC/...SP_PLAN_03.pdf

The elevations start on page 37 and show the mechanical penthouse height at 368 feet 8 inches with 30 floors. That's compared to 354 feet with 29 floors that it was.

Also, it's totally clear that we've jumped up a degree or two in height since even just a few years ago. Looking at Millenium Rainey and the Van Zandt, it's clear that buildings planned in the earlier part of the decade were shorter, smaller in scale, generally less ambitious. The buildings in this newer round are way more robust, and seem to fill out blocks entirely, while the earlier generation seem content with setbacks and smaller footprints.

It's good to see this ground floor retail on what is now a dead street. I really hope The Travis and WPP get built to add life to the other side of the street.

Don't we already have three or four buildings that look like this one? Pretty generic design imo

I like it. This building has the same level of facade detailing that 360 has, and they did a good job on the garage as well.

There will be a mural on one side of the building. The one in the renderingis a map of Austin.

Impressive. If all those remaining little bungalows on Rainey are preserved I think it's going to be a really unique and interesting experience to stroll down. A valley of quaint, colorful bars between these huge imposing towers. 70 Rainey makes a huge impression.

Where is the IHOP? Does Endeavor control the entire block?

I think it looks good! particularly that middle section right above the parking podium...

That being said, this building is going to block the view of my condo's balcony by quite a bit...so I'm lukewarm about the idea of something like this going there...but mainly for personal reasons.

The IHOP site is owned by WCC, so nothing is going to happen at the site for a long time. The parking lot at last word was owned by Sutton/McCourt Global and was planned to be WPP Phase II - as if Phase I was ever going to happen. I wish Endeavor owned the sites so something good would happen.

It is crazy to think that this could be in the middle of a lot of development (as opposed to right on the edge of it) if WPP, the villas, and the parking lot (and even IHOP) ever get moving. Until those happen the Rainey area will continue to feel separate from the rest of downtown. The giant CC plateau may have something to do with that as well, of course.

I'm hoping that now with the fairmont, and soon to be the CC Marriott, it will feel closer together. But then again, the Fairmont is totally oriented away from CC, which doesn't bode well.

A quote from an Endeavor Rep in today's ABJ "breaking news" story about the project:

Quote:
Marsh said they hope to break ground at the end of this year or the "very beginning" of next year.
