Wheaton is one of Chicago's western suburbs located roughly 25 miles from the Loop just off of Roosevelt Rd (Illinois 38) and also the county seat of DuPage. A city of 55,000 people, Wheaton is home to the evangalical institution Wheaton College, which houses a museum dedicated to it's most (in)famous alumnus, Billy Graham. Most of these shots are downtown and on campus, my camera's battery died as I started to get into the neighborhoods, which is a shame because there are some beautiful houses surrounding the downtown corridor. Enjoy!
This was called the "Pop Shop" when I was growing up, I was pleasantly surprised to find that only the name had changed. As you can see, the store is about 4 feet wide and when you walk in you grab a bag and fill it up with a selection of candies that line the wall ranging in price from 5-10 cents for most of them. They also make fresh popcorn all day, there are always a bunch of kids hanging around.
Nice looking town. It's got a very strong christian presence I see.
It's really too bad my camera died because the neighborhoods on this side of town are wonderful. Wheaton is actually quite a bit different on the south side of Roosevelt Road, which acts as a natural divider of the city. South Wheaton is the more typical suburban environment, cookie cutter houses, sub-divisions, strip malls, etc. Ferris Bueller's Day Off type of feel.
