Calgarian

The Eau Claire tower would be better described as two towers joined at the top with a feature similar to the top of the Bishopsgate tower in London. Other than that, looks great CAD.
I still can;t understand why you don;t like it. Every new tidbit of information you reveal makes it sound more interesting. Besides, even if it's not so great, at least it won;t be another box! About time Calgary gets something organic looking (although hopefully not like PAris').

Here are some updated renders for Calgary I've done. The curvy, waivy blue building is based on the descriptions we've heard in the Calgary forum for a new project in Eau Claire.
The pedestrian bridge is a stand in, and for continuity's sake, I've used the same design for both renders.

These have been double checked by Boris2k7 for general accuracy.

Holy Shit! Calgary's skyline is denser than Toronto's!

P.S. Here's hoping the Calatrava bridge does not look like that.

Calgary has a nice skyline but its not even close to Toronto.

.... not even close. If you have even been to Toronto you'd agree with me.

For a city of just over 1 million Calgary sure does have a good future skyline. That s what is amazing about many of our cities (Ranging from Vancouver to Calgary to Halifax to Victoria to Toronto to Edmonton etc...) is that our skylines seem to suggest metro areas of at least double our metro populations, especially when compared to American cities.

Actually it is. Note I said denser not bigger. I have been to TO and it is alot more spread out. Have you ever been to Calgary? The downtown core is quite dense.

It's also worth noting that the bottom pic from the post that inspired my original response is actually a side profile of Calgary's downtown.

(Oh, how I love to get Toronto forumers' panties' in a knot)

As I've stated in a previous thread, based on renderings, I think Toronto will have Canada's sexiest skyline in a few years. I can't wait to see it in person when it comes to life

It depends on how you measure it. The Calgary CBD, which includes the areas immediately west, north, and east of Banker's hall, may just be a bit denser than Toronto's CBD in terms of built density. However, if you refer to larger definitions of both downtowns, Toronto would almost certainly come out far ahead no matter what type of density you are talking about.

And let's be very honest here, almost anyone I've seen who's never really seen Calgary before who then sees that skyline angle from the west comments on the surprising density. Nine times out of ten.

No, it just seems that way. Put them side by side and at the same scale...you'll see.
Calgary is very impressive of course. It's an anomaly really. I can't think of any city in the world so "out of whack" where it concerns office space vis-a-vis population. There may well be a city with more square feet of office space for every individual resident (as an average I'm saying obviously) but I can't think of that city.

The Calgary CBD is more spread out, linear, than Toronto's with its fair share of parking lots in and around to boot. The towers tend to be narrower which allows for more of them. Easy for the eyes to be confused.

Although it's only one of three, Bay Adelaide's construction has changed everything. The massive intensification has also expanded the CBD westward in a relatively short time

When the renderings are released most will share my sentiments. I do agree though, at least it isn't the typical Calgary box tower.

That's a pretty accurate way of putting it.

Re: Toronto and Calgary renderings.

The scale is different. Toronto's is from much farther away, to take into account the greater height/width, etc.

Let's see them on the same scale, from different vantage points. Then, we can compare. Obviously Taranna is in a league of its own in Canada. But Calg punches way above its population.

I love this shot of Toronto posted by flyingdutchee at www.flickr.com. It shows some scale and ends all questions about "this" and "that" when it comes to density. -

Funny thing is, "its not even a future shot, that's how Toronto looks right now!!!"

bladerunner indeed!!!

Hopefully this settles the argument. Here are all the 150 m towers in downtown Toronto and Calgary. Roughly the same scale, red is existing, green is under construction. Toronto has the denser CBD.

Perhaps the young fella fergetted what's behind the waterfront skyline... or perhaps he just needs some attention (coal in his stocking perhaps).

I've seen shots of suburban North York that look like a small Calgary... anyone got a recent one? ;-)
