Frankfurt '11 - Repezenting Deutschland!

clicky

source

ok, i'm sorry..

We'll start with some sunny weather and then move on into the overcast rainy days that frequent this city. After two previous trips to Europe, I should probably give a shoutout to Condor Flugdienst for providing Anchorage with direct nonstop service to Frankfurt (as weird as that is) for the last ten years as of 2011. Thanks to Condor, we Alaskans can bypass Seattle or other US connecting airports altogether and get a roundtrip ticket as low as $500.

Here's to another 10 years with a great airline --and yes, the 9 hour flights are worth it.

That's the Zeil, Frankfurts main shopping drag. Here's a picture of it pre-WWII before Frankfurt was leveled (too big to post here)

the little building on the bottom right corner of that photograph is the lone survivor that you can see toward the bottom right of the picture I took.

I love Frankfurt, beautiful mix of modern and classical architectural. It's actually my favorite European skyline.

Couldn't agree more Travis! I was bummed out to hear recently that some Europeans disparage Frankfurt as 'Mainhattan' because of all the modern finance skyscrapers but the city has done a great job preserving the old German culture. And unlike U.S. and some European cities the skyscrapers are tightly zoned into one small area. That said they do have the ugliest ducks I've ever seen, lol (see mthq's 13th pic).

I only got to spend a half day on a layover from Helsinki; but am def looking to return. My capture below:

This is actually Germany's equivalent of Fort Knox. It's a little known fact that beer is a better store of value than gold.

Love it. Frankfurt is the most underrated city in Germany. Most tourists and conservative Germans hate it because the city isn't your stereotypical prewar city. Instead Frankfurt is the perfect representation of modern Germany where castles and skyscrapers, falafels and pretzels, schnitzel and sushi, beer and wine, and people of all diverse multicultural backgrounds coexist to make it a better place.

Thanks! I stayed in Frankfurt for two days upon arrival to Europe and another two days before catching my flight back home. Of course I visited other cities and countries inbetween.

I post my pics from flickr which has either a modest medium size, or much much larger. I'd like something in between, but in the meantime I just leave large ones for pics that I think really deserve it.
