Incredible skyscraper density!
Oh ABSOLUTELY those two towers 3 and 4 are WAY closer to each other than the original Twins. It's more like the distance between either original Twin and the Vista - later Marriot Hotel.

P.S. yey I started a new page!!

It is closer. It's one of the reason the PA originally objected to an open walkway between the two, fearing the wind drafts would be too much. They wanted a glass encloser, but the city objected.

I doubt that the density of Pine Street could compare to anything, including the rather short distance between WTC Towers 3 and 4, but we can compare after Tower 3 is complete.
The density makes you feel how incredible Lower Manhattan truly is.

It will be nice. Let's hope the lighting is still in place.

I agree.

Hell, any of the towers on the site aside from possibly Tower 2 because of its sheer mass ( but even it will be viewing from the Hudson) because of 1WTC. Each of these buildings would be the kings of their neighborhood in any other city aside from possibly Chicago.

Anyway, there is also a tower U/C in Jersey City that gives off the illusion of being 3WTC coming in from the PATH or NJ Transit. I actually think that was the tower I was looking at when I thought 3WTC was peaking out in the skyline from Jersey.

Anyone know approximately what floor the core is up to? It looks like 31 or so to me. It doesn't particularly matter, just curious.

I'd say about 30 too. About right and roughly 35% of its future height give or take a floor.

I feel like this is rising quickly but at the same time, it feels way too long. Either that, or its my messed up time dilation. Days feel like years sometimes.

I can't help but feel disappointed looking at 3 WTC from this angle. The height cut and design change really makes it look like another boring glass box. At least from the memorial it still has some character.

On the plus side, it feels great seeing this finally get some real height. I remember 4-5 years ago looking down on the site from 1 Liberty Plaza thinking this would be complete by now. To see it finally progress is awesome.

Height cut? If anything it will appear taller because of the parapet going where the spires were.

There was a significant height cut a few years ago. It hasn't changed much since then other than the recent spire/parapet changes.

^ indeed. Whereas 2 WTC was flat out replaced with a new design, 3 WTC has been altered the most. And those alterations have left me greatly disappointed. This tower's supertall status is all it has which can label it as remarkable. It's no longer something unique:

Open letter to Silverstein . . (a minor suggestion) . . .
to discerning eyes - there's an absolute complete fall from grace at WTC . . .
*SSP post #4434 in this thread - shows tower 3's original design . . .
with its iconic triumphant "rack of spikes" crown . . exemplary design bravado.
(not praising T3s's 2nd version wimpy stubs though) . .

SSP post #4431 shows T3's recent lackluster blunt "Crown-less-ness" . .
demonstrating a cavalier desecration of its former ebullient excellence . .
This hacking-off of the high corner finials is hardly just a cosmetic change to Tower 3 !
and No - T1's massive stick - is not enough effort or tower-top design-configuration . .
to visually serve itself - and the whole slew of bland boring flattops surrounding it . . .
(GST - T1 - T7 - T2 -T3 - T4 - and beyond)

concerning tower 2 in SSP post #4431 -
rad defiant bad boy Ingles striving for attention . .
unleashes his monstrous ironic foible into New York's premier venue . . .
From the Northeast - T2 now looks like Ingles dropped the wedding cake . .
& left the big mess . . . Not ha ha . . It's a tragedy . .
in lieu of the genuine serious site-specific linchpin Norman Foster tower . .
I'll more specifically elaborate sometime on T2's thread.

From the Southwest - Silverstein's changes to towers 2 & 3 . .
make the Center look like endless faceless glitzy glass . . .
reminiscent of a jumble of wide shiny plastic garment-bags . .
hanging in the corner of an old storage closet . .
such is the gleaming center's now dumpy design-ambiguousness.

Just imagine what One World Observatory's Eastern view . . would've looked like . .
with the intricacies of T2's massive diamonds . . and the mighty steel horns of T3 . .
right there - architectural high drama thousands of feet above the sidewalk . .
to practically reach out and touch it . . . Folks excitedly snapping dynamic pictures . .
of significantly bold WTC Identity features . .

Now imagine being way up there after paying 20 bucks . .
and viewing the unspeakable bore of the present design's massive glassy boxtops . .
T2 & T3 not just blocking a magnificent view of downtown to the East . . but merely
presenting featureless reflections of the tower you're in . . & empty sky around it . . .
Tourists tell friends - "go elsewhere" . . So it's less interest - less Money - publicity lost.

You guys may think "enough already!". But I don't give a rip. I have a glimmer of hope .
and a ravenous appetite for supreme twin-tower replacement . .
Who knows what'll happen. . . Every voice matters . . .
Very soon they'll start constructing T2 . . and finish off the top of T3 . .
Then it'll be too late to influence anything . .
But at least I'll have peace of mind . . knowing I spoke against low standards
before they irrevocably marred NYC's famous new WTC . .
If they do build the lousier version - well - I may gladly one day eat these words . . .
But I don't think so.

Actually, I would trade the spires for the full crossbracing....alas, we get American Value Engineering at its best....at least the residential market can still kick a little 111 57th/Torre verre butt in the design dept.

These spires were only there to make you forget that the tower's design is lame..
Also,it is obvious that scrapping them harmonize the all cluster..
I keep thinking that Foster's and Roger's designs are vanity designs and Maki's one the best one(humility and quiet strength)
