Had to slip this one in again.

Looking southwest down Grand Blvd toward Lee Plaza (the windowless high-rise) as a snow shower falls over Dearborn. Lee Plaza was the "Michigan Central Depot" before MCD was the symbol of Detroit's decline. This month redevelopment efforts on both properties seem to have taken dramatic steps forward, especially with it looking like Ford will purchase and renovate MCD.

https://ziewers.smugmug.com/Michigan...rban/i-8WSJcST

*Edit (didn't like my grammar and wording in this description) The Ford H.Q. can be seen in the background directly behind Lee Plaza along with other Ford high-rises that make up the Dearborn skyline in the distance. It feels somehow appropriate that I post this pic of Michigan Central Depot next tying things together nicely, that is to say will tie things if Ford does indeed decide to buy and renovated the old train station & the redevelopment plans for Lee Plaza Move forward as well.

At the very least now that the Michigan Depot owners put in 1,100 new windows Canadians coming into the US don't have to look at blight the second they cross the border and Detroiters can admire their signature bridge (the longest suspension bridge in the world when it opened) without the view of it and one of the nicest neighborhoods in the city (Corktown) without a big hulking building with broken windows looming above.

https://ziewers.smugmug.com/Michigan...rban/i-8WSJcST

Downtown on a foggy night last year. I can't wait to see views like this this year (N.W. of downtown) as the Book Tower progresses with its renovation and all light up with its light colored facade. Not the gothic looking soot and grime covered facade that even in the dark with the roof lit and a few light on makes the building looks a tad dark & ominous.

Shiiit I'd been looking for something like this for a while it took me a min to dig it out of the Mlive archive but it's been years since I've seen such a good and thorough air tour of Detroit. Emily Rose Bennett a freelance photographer working for Mlive at the time (fall 2016) took a hot air balloon tour n got some sweet pics. I cut out about half of the pics for the sake of space I really wanted to get down to 20 - 25 but there were so many to pick from after a while I said screw it.

It starts in Grosse Pointe and ends in Southwest Detroit with the exception of Northwest Detroit this is for now the ultimate aerial guide to the city of Detroit.

^That's not really an aerial though, being that it was taken from the UT Tower, but these days it almost doesn't matter anymore with all the drones flying around at different altitudes. You can pretty much see what the view is like from just about any place you want. A lot of the developers have been using them to market the views.

Someone posted this photo to the Austin section, and it is one of the best aerial photos i think I've ever seen of Austin. I just wish it was looking about 2 inches to the left so that Spring and The Bowie showed up.

This one is similar to that one and shows Spring and The Bowie better.

Yeah, that's The Independent. It's going to be 690 feet with 58 floors. It'll be 7 feet taller than the current tallest - The Austonian. It's not a big change, but The Independent is a bit wider than The Austonian is when viewed from the north and south, so the visual impact is somewhat more impressive from a few places.
