Thinner lines and also showing the tram routes would have been nice.

I enjoyed walking around Amsterdam during my one visit there.

Tram routes on a metro map? Of course not. I designed another map for the tram network:

BTW: those thick lines have been derived from the Washington map...

Getting this thread re-resurrected...

This page has a map detailing out my fantasy "National High Speed Rail System". I've basically taken the existing Amtrak and ViaRail networks, the designated (by FRA) High Speed Rail corridors, a few of the cancelled passenger rail routes, and a couple of my own ideas and combined them into one.

Right, I gave up on my previous attempt to show every rail service in and around London....it simply became far too complicated, so I've resorting to just showing rail routes and stations, and this is what I get:

Please note that this is still a work in progress. The south and southeastern rail network is currently absent, while no light rail, bus or ferry networks. More importantly, not a single London Underground line is shown, so you can see how big the commuter rail network is in and around London.

It also looks a bit messy (quite hard to judge properly how many stations and lines - there are two separate maps in real life) and while there aren't any station names, there are stations (if you look close enough you can see what will be the 1,200+ heavy rail stations of London and its environs.

Yes, absolutely. Is that the fictitious map of the non-existing city of Neveria?

(can't see your map...)

Here is one I created using ArcMap. I had to hand draw in each building. Needless to say it took a little while.

Norman, OK
The colors are a little off. hmm

i'm quite impressed with your toronto map, doady; i wasn't fully aware of how extensive toronto's streetcar network was. i wouldn't mind seeing it full-res.

Here's a quick imagining of how I'd implement an elevated lightrail/monorail system in Miami. My initial thought was to connect the Orange Bowl (likely future home of the Marlin's new stadium) to downtown. I figured I might as well extend it to Coral Gables and Coconut Grove. Both originate at a west facing ghost platform at government center. The Gables line terminates at Metrorail and the Grove line stops at metrorail and continues on to Coconut Grove. Chance of any of this happening? 1/100000000000000000000000000

Doady, the link didn't work for me this time either (maybe it did at one time). It's too bad, it looks like a very nicely drawn map, I would still love to see it full size!

Awesome map!

my two major disappointments in the northeast.

1:the SEPTA/MARC gap between Perryville, MD and Newark, DE which forces me to take the Chinatown bus to DC or to pony up the dough for amtrak.

2:that the LIRR "eastside access" will only connect LIRR with MetroNorth
if you take NJTransit into Manhattan you'll still have to take the subway between Penn and Grand Central.

London Tube Maps

Just stumbled across this thread and thought i would post some images of my London Tube maps:

For those interested there are various posts on it at the digital urban blog

We have been trying to get depth information to make a true 3d map but it was suggested we stop due to security concerns.. (which is fair enough to be honest)..

My latest vision for expanded transit in DC. For larger maps and explanation, go here. For the comment thread, go here.

This is a vision I made for my city. We have nowhere near the demand to support LRT, obviously, but the tracks are already there. (Of course, there is only one line.)

A more realistic solution would be to have a BRT right of way go through there when CN abandons it. For the curious, I made the map with Inkscape.
