Yeah that's true. The list isn't 'charming neighbourhood restaurants we all love'. It makes sense though, Toronto, Montreal and Vancouver have the population to support high end restaurants and have the money to pay. Dinner for 2 at Alo (#1) is $450. Winnipeg wouldn't be able to sustain that 6-7 nights a week.

Maybe not Alo prices, but Winnipeg can, and will retain high end restaurants. What matters is if it captures the public's interest. is a staple example, and places like Segovia get expensive FAST.

Winnipeggers also should just go out and spend more :p

Yeah, I believe Winnipeggers/new comers who will occupy places like 300 main and TNS definitely have the purchase power and desire for them

Junction 59 Roadhouse is now open. It is the old Moxie's/Don Cherry's location on Regent.

I noticed this last week but forgot to mention it earlier... Opa! is opening a location at Portage and Good (across from Booster Juice). Quite a little restaurant cluster is emerging around the U of W.

That said, Garbanzo's is closed/closing from what I recall hearing, so one up, one down.

Winnipeg, California? Never heard of it. Where is it? I've heard of Winnipeg, Missouri, which is named after Manitoba's capital.

That's the problem with using postal abbreviations, many people do not know the correct usage or even the correct abbreviation. I have received numerous pieces of mail addressed Winnipeg, MN or Winnipeg, MA, even from senders within Canada. Winnipeg is not in Minnesota nor Massachusetts. In text it is preferable to use AP abbreviations, or spell the name out in full.

I think he’s saying Winnipeg Canada.

He's not addressing a letter, so why are you assuming he's using a postal abbreviation?

Mano a Mano / Teo's was sold recently. Think they're keeping it the same, for now at least.

The new hookah bar across from Bar Italia is open and looks really nice – they did an amazing job on that building, clearly had money to spend.

Also apparently Carbone is in deep trouble.

When Garbonzo's opened earlier in the decade, I used to go with a friend of mine. I didn't like all the screens there...Server said there were 22-24 of 'em.

Service isn't as good as before, I think the place has gone downhill for a while.

Was eating there recently, and a drunk was verbally hitting on the staff and patrons. Took forever for the security staff to remove him.

I don't get that name, Carbone... I see it as:

Car (voom voom) + Bone.

Needs to think of a better name. So until it does, I'm (cough cough from the auto exhaust) will be avoiding CarBone.

Carbone is the Italian word for coal. It refers to how the pizza is cooked. i.e. Using coal, rather than wood, gas, etc.

Well wood coals. The other kind would ruin your pizza and probably poison you lol

I usually like chain restaurants but East Side Mario's is extremely disgusting. It's like a shittier version of Olive Garden.

I think you're mistaken. I wasn't sure so I looked it up:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Coal-fired_pizza says that it has become a major consumer of https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anthracite coal.
