No, but I couldn't find any reference to Cortney in briefly scanning your post.

That's a high number.

Depends what you are comparing it to.

For Winnipeg, that's pretty low.

Winnipeg is at 23 (according to CBC), last homicide was November 10, stabbing victim died a few days after altercation in Point Douglas.

I think for comparison other cities are at
Toronto (54)
Montreal (17)
Vancouver (17)
Calgary (24)
Ottawa (12)
Edmonton (40)
Hamilton (7)
Quebec City (6)
Halifax (6)

It's pretty much on par with most years. I think the lowest I've seen in this decade was 20. But, as the population grows, the homicide rate has actually decreased from where we were in the 1990s and 2000s.
http://www.winnipeghomicide.org/stats.html

And the reality is that most of these homicides are confined to one, small part of the city: North End-Point Douglas area. It's really no different than Jane and Finch in Toronto.

Calgary up to 26 and what's even more amazing is I know one of the accused/arrested murderers in one of the two most recent cases. Kind of sad really, this person had so much potential but just didn't have it in them to break out of the cycle they were in, they even admitted to me that there could be a better way in life for them - odd how paths cross n one's life, I would've never thought I would've known someone who would've committed a murder and yet it is now all too real. Sad, just fucking sad.

Whoa, that's creepy... Really? Man, I'm sorry if you're telling about actual facts here.

It's silly, but I just can't imagine anyone on these forums would actually know any murderer.

It's all too much real and I will not post any more about it other than I know nothing of anyone else that may have been involved or the circumstances regarding the situation. What I've read in the news is as much as I know other than the person accused of committing the act.

Ottawa is at 14 after a man died (stabbing it seems) last night in Vanier, about a block from where another man was killed in a knife attack earlier this year.

Montreal has 21 homocides

https://www.google.com/maps/d/viewer...NPhGM&hl=en_US

This map also shows how many more homicide took place in the East (of St. Laurent) with 15, and 6 in the West.

I know a guy who killed his gf in Winnipeg a few years ago, just crazy to think someone you know can do something like this. I still keep in touch with his family, and it's surreal to hear them talk about visiting him in jail.

It's surprising how few murders occur in both QC and Hamilton in comparison to Winnipeg with all three cites being relatively the same size or maybe more surprising how many murders there are every year in Winnipeg!

^ a quick check on the percentage of people living below the poverty line would probably demonstrate why there are differences in murder (and many other crimes statistics) between Winnipeg, Quebec and Hamilton.

Obviously they are a horrible tragedy and definitely count as murders, but if not for the single mosque shooting in January, Quebec City would be even lower: around 0, 1 or 2 as it has been annually for a decade or two.
