I forget the names but you can see two developments (one on the left, and one in the distance to the right). By the bridge.

The one on the left is 500 West 2nd (aka "Google Tower") and the one on the right (rising above the Congress Ave. Bridge) is the Fairmont Austin Hotel.

This is pretty neat. And you don't need ArcGIS for it. Can view it online at ESRI.

Just give it a couple of seconds to fully load the layers. Anyways, once the layers load, it will categorize them (mixed use, industrial, residential, ect.) and you can click on the polygons to get more info on the parcel/project.

Development Map: http://www.arcgis.com/home/webmap/vi...f9ed8df5ece62f

Remember to zoom in and lots of parcels with different functions will load up. Covers a big portion of the city.

Central Health invites developers to participate in Brackenridge campus redevelopment

By: Rudy Koski
POSTED:SEP 01 2016 04:31PM CDT
UPDATED:SEP 01 2016 04:31PM CDT

A large model on a table, at the Dell Medical School Health Learning building, provides an idea of what the Brackenridge hospital tract could eventually look like. The cluster of white high rides had Juan Garza, Central Health's Vice President for Finance and Development, pretty excited.

Architectural renderings of the mixed use development, provided by Central Health, envision a new city district. There could be multiple high rises for offices, hotels, stores, residential lofts as well as outdoor gathering spots.

"This will bring thousands of jobs to this part of the downtown area, the medical school and the hospital already bring about 15,000 souls to this one spot, and that’s going to double that,” said Garza.

Thursday, the search got underway to find a lead developer to transform the 14 acres of land; which is essentially the size of six city blocks. The center of the development, simply known right now as the plaza, just may be one of the most critical parts of the plan.

I was downtown last weekend for a film festival and noticed more growth. Last time I was near downtown it was more so on the Town Lake side. Just thought I'd share. Not sure what the buildings are. I was near the Convention Center.

A few suggested changes:

There aren't 30+ buildings in the proposed dell medical center. The master plan is attached. See page 32. Anything connected by grey is a single structure, and none of them will be that tall, so they'll appear as if a single structure instead of appearing as two towers on a single podium. There are 12 additional buildings planned past what is either already under construction (4) or immediately planned (the psych hospital transition), it seems to me given what we know now about the Seton Master Plan (which takes away a few of UT's potential structures).

https://campusplanning.utexas.edu/ma...ct20130509.pdf

Nor are there 34 proposed buildings in the capitol complex expansion. There are only 6 new buildings, actually, 2 per phase, and only the first two are funded. The parking garage has yet to be funded, the pedestrian mall, etc, as well, yet they are planned. All other massings are simply for show of what could maybe happen when the state decides decades in the future to expand again.

Posted this on the Texas thread, thought I'd put it here also:

Article out today by the IBJ, Houston's metro area projected to grow by 66.7% between now and 2040, from 6.6 million now to 11+ million by 2040.

Thanks to Slyfox for posting this link in the Houston thread. The article lists many Texas metros on here and their respective population projections. Here are they are:

Austin-Round Rock, TX
2015 Population: 2,000,860
2040 Projection: 3,971,820 (+98.5% change)

Houston-The Woodlands-Sugar Land, TX
2015 Population: 6,656,947
2040 Projection: 11,098,843 (+66.7% change)

San Antonio-New Braunfels, TX
2015 Population: 2,384,075
2040 Projection: 3,750,542 (+57.3% change)

Dallas-Fort Worth-Arlington, TX
2015 Population: 7,102,288
2040 Projection: 10,903,288 (+53.5% change)

McAllen-Edinburg-Mission, TX
2015 Population: 842,304
2040 Projection: 1,274,681 (+51.3% change)

So, my first thought is, "Wow!" That's some crazy growth. My second thought is that I don't see Houston passing DFW in population...but maybe I'm wrong.

This was unexpected. There are several large Downtown hotel projects that haven't announced their brands yet, and there has been a lot of speculation about potential brands. But this brand came in under the radar. Austin is getting a Trump (Hotel) Tower! At 33-stories it would have 255 hotel rooms along with 22 condos. WSJ story:

I didn't know the Wall Street Journal had a satire section.

Quote:
The Trump Organization is partnering with a developer on a Texas hotel project that seeks to tap a controversial program granting green cards to foreigners who invest in the U.S.
I wonder if this could be for the hotel/condo tower at 6th & Nueces. The one just north of the IBC Bank Plaza.

"May" be getting a Trump-branded hotel. IF built, it will be the brand's new Scion concept.
