This looks really good, I am really jealous of what PSU is becoming, it makes me wish I was going to college there now or in 2020. It is definitely great to see it become more and more a true urban campus.

Notice of a Pre-Application Conference [PDF] for changes to the PSU Business School:

Quote:
Pre-Application Conference to discuss a request to amend LU 15-129978 DZM AD condition of approval D. The Design Commission approved the proposed renovation and expansion of the PSU Business School. Condition D required a percentage of glazing (i.e. windows) on fhe fascades. The applicant wishes to vary from this condition. A Type III Design Review will be required to modify the condition of approval. No other changes are proposed. No service bureau response needed for discussion about glazing.
I can't imagine the Design Commission changing their minds, but who knows.

PSU business school expansion halfway up

The PSU School of Business Administration is getting a new building along with its new dean, and construction is at its midpoint this summer.

The existing Karl Miller Center is being renovated inside and out, and a new classroom building and pavilion is being developed on the adjacent site to form a new facility.

Recently renovation has reached its halfway point. As for the new building, construction workers started to pour the first floors in. It is slated for completion in Fall 2018.

The existing building, built originally in the 1980s, is being reclad in a more sustainable material and renovated on the interior, and the addition will replace garden landscaping with a statement building full of classrooms. The two will be connected by a glass atrium with an interior grand staircase, and be six floors tall.
...continues at the Business Tribune.

Mentioned later in the article: Hacker are the architects for the $70 million renovation and seismic upgrade of Neuberger Hall. Looking forward to seeing what they come up with.

‘Elaborate’ computer-aided design

The team members behind the renovation/addition of 90,000 square feet at the Portland State University School of Business Administration had used BIM before. But never like this, they said.

Instead of merely detecting clashes in the piping and conduit, building mapping software in this case helped ensure that every piece of the project was routed appropriately. But with the first half of the project now turned over to the owner, and the remaining, entirely new construction, the team is breathing a little easier.

“BIM coordination is different on every project,” said architect Sam Stadler of SRG Partnership Inc. “This is definitely one of the more elaborate ones that I’ve seen.”
...continues at the DJC (temporarily unlocked).

A Pre-Application Conference has been scheduled by Hacker Architects to discuss the Neuberger Hall Renovation:

Quote:
Renovate existing building, which includes updating and modifiying accessibility, fire, life, safety, deferred maintenance, program adjustment and facade improvements. While these renovations are taking place, they are proposing to use alternate sites to facilitate academic and staffing needs. (See separate PC 17-115464)

Ooh, I have a gear VR, I hope they make VR renderings in the future!

Also, the architecture is pretty rad.

All this new stuff going on at PSU really makes me jealous. I loved my time there, but I so wish I was in my 20s going there now. That urban campus is really coming together.

The city of Portland and its three biggest schools of higher learning are teaming up to transform a parking lot into a $100 million hub for public health, education and city services.

Leaders from Portland State University, Oregon Health & Science University, Portland Community College and the city on Monday will formally kick off plans to construct a 200,000-square-foot building on PSU's downtown campus by 2020. Still in the design phase, the building is projected to be seven to nine stories tall.

The finished project would be one of the largest academic structures in the city and fill a void for PSU along its nearby transit hub.

"We are very excited to leverage the power of PSU, OHSU and PCC to train Portland's future health and education leaders," PSU President Wim Wiewel said in a statement. "This unique collaboration with the city takes us to a new level of community cooperation, one that sets a standard for Portland, the region and the state."

It would be nice to have the streetcar run through the building as was originally planned years ago. Great place for a station and also cleans up the mess on 4th and Montgomery streets.
