I believe he was joking. Hence the

The spire will most certainly be clad in white like all the other steel supports. What you see is there is only the inner structure.

181 Fremont Lift to the Top!

I was lucky to see four guys get a lift in a metal basket by the construction crane from the street to the top of the building.

The more I see of 181 Fremont being completed the more beautiful it gets!

Anyone got a problem with this tower being considered 802 feet with the spire? Haven't seen any complaints yet like with the Wilshire Grand.

technically yes, but if all that is at stake is whether this ranks as the fourth- or fifth-tallest building in SF, or whatever it is, why bother worrying about it.

people worry about the WG because people make much more ambitious claims about its height. (edit: and because its spire is a more egregious example of the issue than this building, based on percentage of total height made up by the stick: 7% for this building, 27% for WG, which in my opinion makes the latter's claims ridiculous.)

my take.

A similar argument could be said for the Transamerica Pyramid- it's "spire" counts for 20% of the building's total height.

Perhaps, but the transamerica spire is a perfect continuation of the inhabited structure (due to the pyramid shape), and as such looks like "building" rather than "spire". The wilshire grand's spire, on the other hand, is a massive skinny pole.

Crown Construction

Looks like the crown is starting to rise, does anyone know when the crown will be finished?

I completely agree with you and Salesforce Tower will be the same as the Pyramid.

The aluminum cladding still needs to go on. What you see now is the raw galvanized steel.

A HalloweenTreat

I see today that the steel has been put in place that defines the slope of the building's top!

^ Great shot! The skyline could benefit from more well-done, interesting rooftops, like the Millennium and the St Regis.
